The Republicans in CA are doing such a great job now! They lost an easily winnable election. Maybe it's time to stop banging our heads into a wall.

Mark Steyn's quote about "the death-before-electability crowd who dominate GOP primaries in California" reminds me of the Greens and the far left. For the sake of "principle", they slip and slide away from power.

As I recall, the national Republicans did not want Prop 187. They saw the writing on the wall and it has come true in spades. However, in Texas, Bush appealed to hispanics and now the state is solidly Republican and growing more so every year.

Pete Wilson won '94 because he supported 187. Then the Republican streak of 16 straight years of controlling the governorship ended in '98.

You guys just love your RINOs, don't you? It makes no difference to be if someone has an "R" next to his name, but supports policies I abhor. Do you even know who that scumbag George Ryan is?

Your last paragraph is dead right. The previous two are nonsense and inconsistent with the last. Dubya got Latino vote by having numerous Latinos in his family by marriage, by speaking some Spanish, by ASKING POLITELY FOR THEIR VOTES (as you suggest) and by being a social conservative.

The California GOP is run by RINOs like Gerry Parskey and Brook Firestone. That is why it is totally inept on issues and coalition building. These guys think of a coalition as a mutual effort of the polo club, the yacht club and Bank of America's coroporate directors. Maybe Simon would have done better if he was not blindsided by that $300 million judgment against his stock brokerage for fraud (none of his personal doing but played to a faretheewell by Doofus). I don't think it had much to do with him being a conservative.

Simon claims to have gotten 3.1 million votes to Doofus's 3.4 million votes, a difference of 300,000. To someone in, say, New Hampshire, that sounds like a devastating margin. Work out the numbers and you will find that Simon got 48.5% to Doofus's 51.5% This is hardly an embarassment for a rank rookie (a category in which Aaaaaahnold now falls). Tom McClintock lost for State Comptroller by 1% or no more than 65,000 votes in a state as big as California. Can someone please tell me why Robot Man is some kind of world-beater when he polls 25%?

Besides, Aaaaaaaahnold is a conservative on exactly NOTHING. Why ARE we arguing here?

Nothing succeeds like success. Arnold Schwarzenegger will be the next governor of California and welcome George W. Bush to the state.

California will resume being the land of dreams realized instead of the land of red ink.

Arnold is a very good businessman--who also cares about--drumroll--the children.

Except, with him, it's not special effects, but genuine.

Brilliant comparison!

The Left have their Greens, and we have the Libertarians that haven't had a real job in the last 10 years advising the GOP to be 'pure'.

Hilarious!
