Yeap, I wasn't aware of this quote, either. I am really beginning to wonder about Arnold.

However, some Hollywood guy on the radio was saying just the other day (I may not get the exact quote but pretty close), "There is a DEMCOCRATIC operation on right now, to turn the conservatives against Schwarzenegger with (false) exaggerations about his liberalism ... in fact, he's a neo-conservative and a 'Libertarian' who attends Libertarian gatherings ... in fact he's a great admirer of Ronald Reagan, and has a BUST OF REAGAN in his (home) office " ...

Now, I don't know if this is a pile of horse manure, because who knows where this other guy in the Hollywood scene is coming from, or what his agenda is. And, don't ask me his name, because I already forgot. Also, I was coming off a plane back from HOU, was in LAX to transfer, and I ran into some Hollywood guy (he has photos of some celeb, now I forgot this celeb's name too, was some T.V. show guy or something - I guess I'm going senial or something) - anyway, he starts telling me about John Wayne, patriot and all, and then (and this was BEFORE Arnold stated his candidacy, BEFORE the CA recall hit the media) he starts to tell me about Arnold Schwarzenegger in sort of the same light as John Wayne, some kind of "Republican who loves the USA", "wants to save Bush", and stuff, "patriot" ... don't know what to make of that, but this guys was all praise for Arnold - again, this was BEFORE the recall. Frankly, that discussion, or one-way discussion/speech this Hollywood guy was giving me, well, when the whole recall thing kicked in, it sort of influenced me to have interest in Arnold Schwarznegger. Quite frankly, I don't know what to do. This race is going to be A LOT TIGHER then some folks think.

Reporters are going over Schwarzenegger's tax returns as we speak. He has released his 2000 and 2001 returns.

He also gives well over $4,000,000 a year to charity.

So there you go, he said he would release them and he did.

I think that what has to happen for Simon or McClintock to win is that Schwarzenegger has to succumb to the trials of the campaign. He's an engaging personality, and his entry into the campaign changed the focus of discussion from whether Davis will survive to who will be the next governor. Also, some say that he scared Feinstein out of the race, or more precisely, his floated rumors of not running caused a complacency in the Feinstein camp that led them to believe that they didn't need to get in. I never thought Feinstein would enter the race because she's in a much more secure position as a Senator-for-life and would be crazy to give that up for a two-year stint as governor of a failed state.

Right now, Schwarzenegger's strength is the disgust that California's voters have for the political establishment. Democrats are portraying him as an inexperienced candidate. The flip-side to this (that is being played up on talk radio) is that the "experienced" politicians in Sacramento are the people who caused this mess in the first place, so "experience" isn't something to crow about right now. If Schwarzenegger does fall, either due to dirt or a shallow campaign, he will then have to throw his support to either Simon or McClintock, and continue stumping for them, for one of them to win.

If Scharzenegger holds on, and if the people continue to want to send a message to Sacramento that they won't take the games anymore (like the secret meeting to conspire to elongate the budget crisis in order to solidify Democrat power), then he has a good shot at winning. Bustamante would then be his biggest obstacle. They will both play up the "immigration card" although Schwarzenegger is the true immigrant who made it and personifies the "American Dream," while Bustamante is an LA native (who is the son of immigrants) who helped make the mess in California rather than helped improve the people's lot. Schwarzenegger will have to tie Bustamante to Davis and everything that is wrong with Sacramento today.

If Democrats continue with the "Nazi" theme, then Schwarzenegger can cry racism (especially coming from an Hispanic who used the "N-word" in front of African-Americans on MLK Day) and link the Democrats to the national obstruction of Estrada on racial grounds, the smearing of Pickering as a racist when he has the support of his local NAACP, the obstruction Pryor because he's Catholic, the threats of obstructing Kuhl of California for the same reason, the smearing of Powell and Rice as "house slaves," etc., if he really wants to make the case that the Democrats go to extreme nastiness when they don't have anything else to offer and then try to offer themselves up as the supporters of racial minorities (I doubt he'll do this because he's too close to the Kennedy's).

I don't know if your quote is really his. However, regardless of whose bust might grace Schwarzenegger's office, what good to a conservative is a 'fan of Reagan' who:

---supports abortion
---supports gay rights
---hated the Clinton impeachment
---wants to grow the economy so he can increase spending
---wants to strengthen gun regulations....

...you get the point. He could pray nightly at an alter to Reagan, but if he holds these views, he's no conservative.

I want Simon to drop out for McClintock. It will help McClintock big time. The same voting public that would consider McClintock is the same group Simon is aiming for.

A fragmented Republican ballot will only allow Cruz to win.

As a conservative talk show host, I believe it is TOO early to get TOO excited about this issue.

Hi, Eric. And welcome to FR!

You'll find lots of good conservative folks here, including some who, like myself, listen to your show daily on our way to work.

As always happens in CA politics, there are 2 conservative camps warring with each other in this election:

Those who want nothing but a "pure" conservative,
(and)
Those who will settle for a "best we can get" candidate.

You are exactly right in saying that it's much too early to get too excited, although it would be nice if either Simon or McClintock withdrew, leaving a clear conservative choice.

Whoa Eric. You are the only other person who has voiced this opinion. I've been saying all along that we will shake out the wrinkles in due time.

I think one of the two conservative leaders will pull ahead far and fast. Most of the conservative Republican voters are highly educated voters and read and watch the news and listen to talk radio. There will be ample time and opportunity for one guy to step aside. I think they are both mature enough and wise enough to do that.

Meanwhile the Dems will be voting in large numbers for Edward Kennedy, Michael Jackson and Richard Simmons, to the detriment of Cruz Bustamante.

Arnold isn't the one who went in front of the NAACP and called them niggers last year. Let Bustamante try to get out of that faux pas.
