I agree, leaving a baby alone with any dog is far too risky.
To blame this on the dog being a pit bull is shortsighted.

My brother and his wife had a dauschaund (sp? wienner dog)when their first child was born. He was an old dog and not used to sharing attention with a child. He was extremely jealous of their child. He was so jealous that leaving the dog alone with the child was out of the question for fear of the dog harming the child. Yet, if the baby cried, the dog would go "check" on him. He never harmed the child but had acted aggressively towards the child. As the child got older the dog eventually accepted him as a member of the pack/family.

A dog sees themself as a part of the pack/family and will get jealous just like an older sibliling might when a younger child enters the pack/family. This jealousy can lead them to cause harm and I think this is what happened in this case. The dog was jealous and acted upon it when given the chance. Ignorant parents! Sorry they had to learn this lesson the hardest way. God Bless the child.

Thank you. That's what it truly boils down to.
