A German is to become the first ever European to take part in the world's most brutal tournament - the Sanda fight in China.
Andre Mewis, 31, from Berlin, has been training for the fight for two years.
The sport, known as Sanda, is a mix of judo, karate, boxing and kung-fu and there are no rules.
Everything is allowed, kicking, biting and punches and the fights often end in serious injury or in some cases death.
He said he had been taking his participation very seriously, training up to 11 hours a day with two Shaolin monks, foregoing sex and not drinking. And he is confident of success. He says: "I will leave China the winner."
The karate champion added it is not just about muscles and strength. He said: "They are minor points. A fighter's mind is his best weapon.
"It is like a game of chess. Just one correct move is enough to ensure your opponent is taken out."
The fight will take place in the Chinese town of Zhengzhou in October.

No, I'm saying I met an XXXtremely tough looking ugly guy from Macedonia (friend of family friend)who everyone including him said had fought in the Sanda.
If he had said he had bitten the head off a fire breathing dragon I would have believed him.
We were talking martial arts. And I said my friend had fought in Hong Kong and then he talked about the Sanda which I had heard of.
The guy looked like he had been through a wood chipper and lived. Being a wimp and a wheezer, I take people's word for things like that.

Ping for Hong Kong kung Fu info.
Can you shed any light on this?

Maybe :)
Looked like all it had done was make him mad. His wife was saying he never bothered to fight til a few rounds into a fight.Let the other guy wear himself out. If I had any guts I would have asked him if he knew you were supposed to NOT get hit.
But I don't have any guts. And I'm still pretty so I got something to lose.

My brother was given a Chow, which he named Sasha. Stupidest dog in the world. My roomate's girlfriend had one of those and it was also dumb as a post. That d#mn dog would try to hump everything. It was funny for about 5 minutes and then you wanted to punt the dog out the window.

Great ring tactician: blocking all those punches with his face. :~)

German to take part in fight with no rules This has got to be a bogus story.
Germans don't participate in anything unless there are extensive rules and order.

Hi John,
I remember the guy you mean, red hair, about 6'4", and halloween ugly. Pretty wife, Dorina. He was a Sanshu fighter. He was also in the Wushu circuit, which is big in western Russia and Manchuria.
You'd have to talk to my brother Harry to be sure, but I believe there have been many Euros and Americans in the Sanda. Harry fought that guy once over in Europe,(Hungary?) this was in the eighties. Put him down and out just long enough for the decision to be called. Then he jumped up like nothing happened and was yelling at Harry and the judges about being cheated and the fight wasn't over. Harry refused to give him a rematch. Told me he thought he had got a lucky shot in and was happy to be able to walk away.
Sorry, can't remember his name.
Can't hang around, off to work.
See you saturday.

My dog's butt is prettier than you.
Bye.

Some Sanda Rules
-from
http://www.terra.es/personal/ealpan/articles/sanda.htm "Grabs and take-downs must be performed within two seconds.
Traditional Wushu techniques such as pressure points attacks can not be performed due to the use of boxing gloves.
You may not hit your opponent head more than twice with the same technique.
The fight does not continue on the ground..."
Sanda rules looks a lot more restrictive than the Ultimate Fighting Championship, and far less brutal than boxing (just pound 'em in the head).
Oh, and this is my first post here ever. Howdy!

...You may not hit your opponent head more than twice with the same technique...
Ooh, I'd be in trouble. My only technique is overhand coal shovel when their back is turned.
Welcome to FR.

"Two men enter. One man leaves."You beat me to it! I wonder if that was before Tina Turner got her British accent?

"foregoing sex and not drinking"
That will make him a wild beast.

The two guys dip their boxing gloves into tar or some other substance, and then into a bucket of glass shards. Which reminds me of the fight in Hotshots where they have lots of choices of what to dip their gloves in: Gravel, sand, chopped nuts, m&ms, gummy bears...lol!
