This is a very heated topic for many americans. I wont go into too many details but alot of times papers print only what they want you to know to form opinions in a certain manner. There was no "assault" that took place. There was movement and the bushes, guns were drawn(on what turned out to be illegal immigrants(which turned out to be women and children(and one "coyote"))). The Illegals were handcuffed and turned over to the border patrol. When it was determined that "the vigilantes" (also known as Matt and Alex)had commited no crimes known to the officer at that time, they were released, only to be arrested a week later. The charges are only that, charges. They have not been convicted of anything as of yet. If you look at what they are being charged with in detail(according to how it is written in arizona law) you will see how it can be interpreted several ways. Thats the real issue here. Also if you look further, one of the illegals(the coyote)is being charged with endangerment, unfortunately he is a minor (16) and has been busted 3 times before by border patrol. He was paid 600 dollars to escort the 2 families across the border who had plans to go on to New York. It is my opinion that no crime was commited. Just 2 americans being punished for protecting our country.

There are 500 posts talking about this. We have pretty much gone over this story from your angle. The counter point is that some of us do not believe armed civilians should be arresting mothers and children. That is the job of the INS and border patrol.

Now, you may say the border patrol is not doing its job, and I would say my local police dept. is not enforcing the seatbelt laws...but if I attempted to stop cars with my gun and start writing tickets, I too could expect to be charged with assault. Individuals should not enforce their interpretation of our laws on other people.

"As far as them trying to make it sound like a hate crime, that's totally ridiculous," Martin Hoffman said.

"They said let's go Mexican hunting," she said.

Thanks for posting this article GoRepGo. It filled in some details. I was wondering why these guys were walking around with handcuffs.

I didn't say LA. I said LA AREA. Nobody knows how many illegals there are in the US. Your 8 million figure is the lowest I've heard.I tend to believe the figure of 20 to 25 million. No matter what the figure they should all be kicked out and should not receive any social services. What part of ILLEGAL ALIEN don't you understand? The pure and simple truth is that ILLEGAL ALIEN INVADERS are a major reason the state of California is in debt. As far as your personal liberal insults FOAD. A common tactic of the left.Illegal Aliens are a blight on the state and the country. Any means available should be taken to keep them and their sisters, cousins, and aunts on their little milpas. They are sucking the life out of the California tax base.If the ILLEGAL ALIEN problem isn't fixed soon California is sunk. Hasta la vista ACLU abogado.

I do not think it was just thier interpretation. They are not trying to enforce laws on other people. Just one law on the people that broke it.
Once this problem has been addressed by whatever means, a moratorium on ALL immigration, from ALL contries would be OK by me for 10 years or so.
The politician on both sides of the isle better get some new batteries for thier hearing aids real quick before this gets ugly(ier).

If you meant LA County then why didn't you say LA County. the 2000 US Census says there is only 35.3 million Latinos in the entire USA you say 25 million of them are illegals. You need to stop getting your figures from stormfront. Hating minorities does not make you conservative and swearing at me does not make you Christian. You are still a F*ck Up. FOAD right back at 'cha.

California's problems are not because of illegals. It is because they give away too many tax payer funded freebies to everybody. legal and illegal residents. I suspect you are a concerned about illegals because you too are a parasite and you see your meal ticket disappearing. Too bad.

You are blaming the illegals for the liberalism of everybody else in the state. Schwarzenegger is a legal immigrant and Davis is a native born American. Most illegals can't even vote, much less write a budget and raise taxes on workers.

These two sentences contradict each other. Once again, if I see someone breaking the seatbelt laws. I do not have the right to detain them at gunpoint and with handcuffs.

You are perfectly entitled to your opinion. Mine is that Government needs to stop paying out unemployment, SS, Medicare, and the other freebies. Open the border wide and if Latinos still want to come to America and work, I welcome them.

The politician on both sides of the isle better get some new batteries for thier hearing aids real quick before this gets ugly(ier).

You have vastly overestimated the strength of this issue. Anger over illegal immigration is strongest in CA, and it should be because CA gives out the most goodies to illegals and legal residents. The people of CA passed 187 yet eturned Davis to the Governor's office when Davis said screw 187. Now the people of CA are about to replace Davis with a pro-immigration RINO or a Latino Lt Gov. There is a lot of anger in CA, but you cannot show me that it is directed at illegal and/or legal immigration.

In other state like mine immigration is a complete none issue except by the ugliest of the far right and the protectionist union liberals.

I never claimed you do have that right. The sentence was that way by design. The broad statement about "trying to enforce laws on other people" is not accurate when applied to this situation. These guys were not looking for parking scofflaws, burglars, speeders or seat belt violators.
This is not about seatbelts, that is a poor example.
I would agree that we should cut off the gravy train. But not open the border.
I don't think that is correct, the number of posts on this thread, the fact that so many of these groups exist, would tend to indicate that this is a strong issue. This issue has been ranked as number one in regards to the difference of opinion between citizens and their elected representatives. I live near Chicago, there are plenty of people here who are fed up with the status quo.

I’m sorry. I’m still no clearer on your logic for what are 2 contradictory sentences. When you say “They are not trying to enforce laws on other people. Just one law on the people that broke it,” You are saying Dumas and Hoffman are not enforcing laws they are just enforcing laws. The only way these 2 statement are not contradictory is if you are nitpicking and saying Dumas and Hoffman are not enforcing “laws” they are enforcing “one law” or if you don’t consider the mothers and their children to be people. I’m willing to forget about ever understanding what you wrote if you want to drop it.

This issue has been ranked as number one in regards to the difference of opinion between citizens and their elected representatives. I live near Chicago, there are plenty of people here who are fed up with the status quo.

Really? On March 3rd 2002 HR 1885 the so-called “Illegal Immigration Residency Extension” came up for a vote. This bill, allowing illegal immigrants to remain in the U.S. without legal residency, did not receive one “no” vote from the 7 congressional districts representing Chicago. Even Henry Hyde voted for this bill. The bill passed 275 to 137 so it is not like there was no opposition to it…just not in Chicago. As punishment the voters in Chicago returned every one of these congressmen to office in November except the congressman from the 5th district who ran for Governor. Do you know who the Congressman representing the 5th congressional district is? Rahm Emanuel! The voters of Chicago elected Clinton’s point man on NAFTA to the US congress.

Illegal immigration must be a huge issue in Chicago. <./sacasm>

(Admin, just including you as CJ did and I wanted you to see my response)

That someone commits a misdemeanor does not give others a license to commit cold-blooded murder. Maybe you should be elsewhere than among conservatives who are big on justice.

If someone is trying to gain entry to this country illegally they have become an enemy of this country and should be treated as such. While I have every sympathy for those trying to gain entry through the proper legal channels I have nothing but hatred and contempt for the enemies of my country.

Someone attacking my country (as illegal border crossers do) deserves only to die. I make no distinction between Iraqi republican guard or Taliban fighters or terrorists or illegal border crossers. They all deserve the same treatment. We are at war and protecting ourselves in wartime is not murder.

(Of course I don't have much use for foreignors anyway but at least most foreignors don't actively attack the USA)

Call it nipicking if you like, but that is what I said. To say these guys are just out enforcing laws is not correct.
They were intereseted in ONE law.
I never indicated that anyone was not a person.

Yes really, get your head out of your agenda.
Serch gallup.com or even Freerepublic and then tell me it is not an issue.

We see that the Salon Bolsheviki are so sure of the righteousness of their cause that they themselves would never rush down into this "war" to do battle themselves against these "enemy invaders." No, that is left to others to do. The Armchair Revolutionaries, these Salon Bolsheviki, are contented enough sitting in the comfort and safety of their compounds calling for other people to do their murderous job for them.

Here it's a war you have proclaimed against unarmed women and children, and rather than bring your own shotgun, you decide to just lend your little shovel instead. Big brave man.

Your point might be stronger if your were a man, and responded as yourself. Instead you have called for a mob of thugs to beat up the "offending poster". It is that action, CJ, which makes me think you are closer to acting on those murderous and mayhemic impulses than your desired target.

Free Republic has become a training ground for the basest pack mentality. Don't delude yourself that you are too far distant from those vile and evil corruptions that FR once mocked in Clinton and his crew -- you are very close, you are there!

We note your apparent lack of disdian for someone who advocates for the murder of unarmed women and children, and your apparent disdain for those who dare to point it out to others.

I've heard more than one democrat, like that idiot Mulholland, try to use support of prop 187 as a negative against candidates like Arnold.Don't the fools realize that the citizens of Mexifornia passed it with a large majority?Pete Wilson was a big supporter of 187 and now he supports Arnold. It was an important issue to Wilson because he knew what would follow if the illegal handouts continued. The word has gotten out thatCalifornia will give you everything if you are a wet back and they are smart enough to milk the system. If Bustamonte wins by default things could get very ugly. The real citizens aren't going to take much more.Either with ballots or bullets.

How do you plan to kill them, John O? Set up 50 cals at the border and mow them down the instant they set foot on US soil? Round 'em up & put them in gas chambers? Electrify the border fence so if they touch it, they're immediately fried? How about the solution Iraq used on the Kurds--just gas 'em in their villages before they can get to US soil?

If these Final Solutions aren't strong enough for you, John O, perhaps you have a solution of your own.

If I lived near a border I would be on th elines with rifle or shotgun in hand. As it is I live in the center of the nation. When I become aware of people who might be illegal I turn them in.

Since I didn't see them attacking the border I don't know for certain that they are illegals and cannot just blast away. Seeing them cross the border however is proof that they are enemy combatants and must be treated as threats

If they are attempting to cross the border then they are no longer woman and children but enemy combatants. Killing an enemy combatant is never murder. Whether they are armed or not is immaterial, weapons are easy to acquire and terrorism is far to easy to carry out.
