"For a lot of work you're better off with the Garand, m 14, or even M1 carbine."

Fine weapons,all. However, I would like to own the same rifle our Soldiers use. I do not own an AR-15 variant because I disliked the design. Perhaps this will be better.

Actually, were price no object, I'd own them all. However, right now i'm low on cash-o-line so I'm holding out.

Yes, they are all fine weapons.

But, under 6 lbs, compared to, what, 10 lbs? Time to evolve.

I'll take the lighter weapon. I've already got 50 lbs of gear hanging from my body; why would I want to make it worse by carrying one of those dinosaurs?

If I remember correctly, once the "proven G3 roller-delayed system" cycles the brass, it isn't reloadable. I'd stick with the weapons you mentioned, especially the .30-06 or .308.
