[history]
With the California Supreme Court on the brink of deciding which -- if any -- recall-related legal challenges to review, Gov. Gray Davis got no help Wednesday from his fellow Democratic officeholders in his legal attack on the historic election.

Clinton's "advice" just go thrown in his face. Too funny.

The Bustamante argument is ridiculous.
If he wins, who is to say he won't chose Davis for his Lt. and then resign - making Davis the Governor again.
This is just so Clintonian...

Isn't this the kiss of death from two rats to their former leader Herr Davis?
In a 59-page brief, Attorney General Bill Lockyer and Secretary of State Kevin Shelley rejected the legal arguments Davis has raised to delay the recall election until March. The attorney general's lawyers, representing Shelley in the case, urged the Supreme Court to dismiss the governor's case, saying that while the recall may pose ``formidable'' difficulties, ``they do not render this unique procedure unconstitutional.''

Maybe Davis's purpose in his miserable life is to serve a warning to other Rats, that they are responsible for their bad judgment!

If he (Bustamante) wins, who is to say he won't chose Davis for his Lt. and then resign - making Davis the Governor again. Sorry to disagree, Mabel, but I find this the unlikeliest of possibilities. Cruz Bustamante is a power-hungry little jerk who'd run down his own mother to further his political career.
If he gets in the Governor's Mansion, he ain't voluntarily getting out for anybody.

"If he wins, who is to say he won't chose Davis for his Lt. and then resign - making Davis the Governor again." Trust me. Bust-A-Move isn't going to win. He won't finish any higher than 5th.

Meanwhile, U.S. Sen. Barbara Boxer filed a letter with the Supreme Court on Wednesday asking justices to decide the entire Davis case by the end of the day Saturday, the deadline for candidates to file. Boxer said she was ``taking the unusual step'' because it is crucial to determine immediately if Davis will succeed in his legal bid if he is to get his name on the second part of the recall ballot. This is very telling. I think there is some polling numbers, or some research groups, or some meetings that are telling the Democratic Party to be very concerned that these court cases could serious hurt the Party. I think they are exactly right. This is a populist movement no matter how many times they use the words "ultra-conservative" and "republican" and they are realizing it. If they go down that road demonizing it, somebody has told them its a ticket to their total disaster.
That's why I'm agreeing with all those now disappeared/changed tune FReepers and coming out against the recall.
/sarcasm.
