Interesting. If you have a news article pointing that out, please share. We need details if this goes through and is signed. Thanks in advance.

Unforunatly, I don't have any news article.
I have heard it from a couple of older local politicians, one Republican & one Democrat, the Republican is intimatly familiar with LaHood's & Hastert's operations, so in my opinion there is a 99% chance it is true
To: Stew Padasso
We should feel optimistic that this will be reversed. Otherwise, it is a sure fire loser for Bush. But he said he would sign it.

"What's your proof that they have or are going to remove it?"

You're determined to get this up, aren't you?
One has to wonder why. Well I haven't seen it. And it's important for all to see how their elected leaders vote on certain issues, especially ones where they violate the Constitution based on their stance. Glad to see the President of these United States plans to sign legislation based on focus groups, studies, and polls instead of the Constitution....but hey how's that different from any other day for the past 143 years? Republican, Democrat, again I ask what's the difference? If I wanted the AWB ban to continue, socialized healthcare plans, biggest spending since LBJ I could have voted for Gore.
But I didn't. I voted for Bush. I actually believed his 'stance' on states rights. One of the few reasons I voted for him. Silly me, to believe a Republican of all people, knowing the history of the party, would honor the rights of the states and the Constitution

Not much chance of getting them on the record - they are trying to "keep their noses clean" & change things behind the scenes
My Dem. friend is an old blue dog democrat and is more conservative than most of the republicans in power, at the moment downstate conservatives in both parties are "plotting behind the scenes" as it were trying to manipulate things to the benifit of downstate Illinois, and they are trying not to let the party leaders from either party know who is up to what - at least that is what I gather from the discussions i have been involved in
But if Hastert pulls one more fool stunt & every republican congressman from the state does what he says, they are all going to face very expensive primary challenges next time around (as will a lot of dems)

Silly me, to believe a Republican of all people, knowing the history of the party, would honor the rights of the states and the Constitution Gee, I guess you never heard of a guy named Lincoln - as far as he was concerned we didn't have a constitution
(No, I dont want to refight that battle on this thread)
Of course, in my opinion Tyler was the last President to defend the constitution
And you have to admire a 54 year old guy who marries a 24 year old Heh Heh..
To: Ford Fairlane
Too bad. Well it won't be hard to trace Hastert's steps if he does decide to govern like a jellyfish. Thanks for the info, and bump this thread with any updates.

I've seen that argument too, although I've also seen some say Polk was the last President to do so
