I walked out of my teaching job at a local CC just last week. Is that Community College? I thought those places are OK to work at. It's grade school and high school that you want to avoid teaching.

CC = Community Collge? Yes. While it is different from "grade school and high school," there are unique problems associated with it. Ever been asked out by attractive students (early twenties) and had to decline due to ethical obligations? Ever had to tell a student, 20 years your senior, that their excuse wasn't good enough?
Honestly, those weren't the real problems. It was the preparation. I took the job knowing that I'd be facing a substantial cut in pay. What I did not accurately predict, however, was the hours of prepartation needed for each school day. I basically surrendered my personal life in order to teach. It put a significant strain on my relationship with my kids and girlfriend. I received "unusually high marks" for a new instructor, but it came at a price.
