I recall the press being fuzzy on what to call Lindh, and they used both sets of names for a while. When it became a case for the prosecution, Ashcroft's people always used Lindh's American, birth, name, and it was the one that stuck.

Don't know about the others, but I saw a definite effort by our government to make Lindh identified as an American traitor, from the start of this hitting the news. I remember thinking at the time that it was deliberate and a smart thing to do. Governments need to know their enemies, name them, prosecute them.

On page 280 of Treason by Ann Coulter...

"John Walker Lindh changed his name to Suleyman Al-Lindh in high school. When he was captured with the Taliban he as going by the name of Abdul Hameed. He hadn't used the name Lindh in years."

"Dirty bomber Jose Padilla had his name legally changed to Ibrahim in the mid-nineties."

"Thwarted shoe-bomber "Richard Reid" was identified by the French Police as Tariq Raja. The name he answered to at the time he tried to bomb an airplane was his muslim name, Abdel Rahim."

Ann's point in all this is that these are examples of the media to whitewash the activities of the Religion of Peace, journalistic standards be damned.
