Mark Shay, a board member of the embattled Voyager Charter School, has announced that he will run independently as a Libertarian for Garnet Valley School Board in the Nov. 4 general election.

Shay will run against five incumbents -- Michael Hanlon, George Patti, Loretta Scuderi, Daniel Van Wyk and William Wilkinson -- who are cross-filed on the Democratic and Republican ballots. The five candidates who gain the most total votes will win seats on the school board.

The Garnet Valley School District is a upper class school, conservative district in Delaware County, Pa. on the Delaware border.

The incumbents -- all Republicans -- have been spending money like drunk sailors for decades and are rubber stamps for the teachers and administration.

Shay -- basically a Republican -- wants a charter school. The teachers, of course, do not.

If memory serves, Shay lost the GOP primary last May. Anyway the only way he can get on the ballot is via a third party and that's what he's done.

Good luck and God bless.

I think I like the idea of Libertarians on school board. They certainly will not be worse than the RINO union rubber-stamp Republicans.

That is absolutely right. As a rule I will now vote Libertarian for school board races.
