[history]
SACRAMENTO, Calif. - With new polling showing Gov. Gray Davis facing tough odds to save his job, jittery Democrats met around the state Monday to consider breaking ranks and urging U.S. Sen. Dianne Feinstein or another prominent party leader to run in the historic recall race.

The liberal media is still in love with Dickie Pooh. Its nice to see though the Democrats panicking. Even their own polls shows nothing but disaster for The Doofus. No wonder they're gloomier than ever. The end of the world is nigh.

How's this for a far fetched theory (or maybe not far fetched). Loretta Sanchez has been promoting Diane heavily for the last few days. Diane runs and wins then promotes Loretta Sanchez to senator (possibly the first hispanic woman Senator from California). Then she is also free to appoint Sanchez's replacement... uh Gray Davis?

Up to this point, it would be what I would expect. Fortunatly, replacements for US Representatives are not appointed by the governers, but a special election is held.

If I recall correctly, it would be held with the next general election which is scheduled in March 2004.

Is Juan Corona on the ballot, or did he die in prison?
He'd be better than Davis or Riordan.

Here's my swag (scientific wild-ass-guess). DiFi, runs in the recall and gets elected as the repubs split the votes. Over three year perisd she balances the budget after siding with the repubs on some key spending controls. She runs for president in 2008. Hillary foams at the mouth.

Here's my guess. Riordan runs and wins. He governs as a Democrat, but allows the media and the Democrats to blame Republicans.
Both the GOP and California loses.

As a Reagan Democrat, my favorite candidate would be
John Garamendi, - IF -he was willing to change his views, and Lead!
Others who may have some positives: (Comments from another thread)
Former Assemblyman Rod Wright - (Dem - Los Angeles) -
Rod "termed out" last year or the year before. For gun owners in this State, he's our favorite Democrat. More than once he was there keeping the gun grabbers from stealing our rights in the dead of night. (And I mean that literally. He stopped some late-night "proxy voting" shenanigans in the Assembly.)
Let me put it this way: He's the only liberal Democrat from South Central L.A. who could raise campaign funds in Simi Valley! - #13 - by Redcloak
Rod Wright - Isn't he the guy who was TRYING to stand up for father's rights in California (where fathers don't have many rights)? #11 - by janetgreen
AND then there is State Sen. Dean Florez, who is know as a 'maverick' - in being willing to stand up (at least to some extent) to Gray Davis & the Democratic leadership! He had said a couple of weeks ago, that if a prominent Democrat was not on the ballot as a replacement to Davis, - then he, Sen. Florez, would run.
Now it's time for the tables to be turned.
- I believe that a single democrat will win the recall election second question. -
* - A Democrat runs, - a Democrat wins! - *
Prominent Democrats - Gray Davis does NOT deserve your allegiance.
Democrat Voters - Gray Davis does NOT deserve your vote!
If a Democrat wants to be Governor just to continue the typical policies of Gray Davis, they are wasting their time and their effort.
This is an important time to "put Principle before Party".
Where are the prominent Democrat Leaders who can admit to the problems within the Democrat Party, and speak out against the corruption of Gray Davis, - and then begin to lead the Democrats in a new direction?
Do a little Cut & Paste with the above statement - and

Ya gotta love this insanity! I still think there's a chance Arnold will run, but if he doesn't and Riordan runs, fine. Also fine for all the rest to run..
As for Feinstein, though I'm a Republican I believe she would do a better job than Davis, and at least she has been outspoken about better border controls in the past. She's a tough taskmaster and though not my choice, I'd be happy if she jumped in and beat Davis. Of course the Dems don't want this to happen but it sure sounds like many are starting to sing a different tune, doesn't it.
What fun!

Here's my swag:
The democrats have only 3 days remaining to figure out this crazy ordeal, so they are going to decide on 1 and only 1 candidate. They'll probably choose the one candidate that is the most UNPALATABLE to republicans, someone like Boxer, to run. That way, they still have a chance of actually defeating the recall -- showing solid support, having the backup name recognition to win the governership back from all those pissed off democratic voters, the republican votes are divided into an uncritical mass, that kind of thing. The democrats will only hold this Boxer candidacy in reserve, making sure that Davis does exactly as he's told, basically blackmailing him. If he doesn't toe the line, Boxer runs in earnest.
