[history]
The purpose of the closed-door meeting at the Capitol, to be presided over by Senate President Pro Tem John Burton, was to give senators a chance to talk openly about the upcoming recall campaign and whether they should continue their unilateral support of the unpopular governor.

I hope they turn the microphone on for all to hear. That was so informative last time. ;-)
Open Mic Catches California Democrats (AP) - Unaware that a live microphone was broadcasting their words around the Capitol, Assembly Democrats meeting behind closed doors debated prolonging California's budget crisis for political gain. Members of the coalition of liberal Democrats talked about slowing progress on the budget as a means of increasing pressure on Republicans. A microphone had been left on during the closed meeting Monday, and the conversation was transmitted to about 500 "squawk boxes" that enable staff members, lobbyists and reporters to listen in on legislative meetings. I guess they don't like Audie Bock, the former Green/Dem Assemblywoman who plans to run as a Democrat, or State Senator Dean Florez, who said he'd run if no big-name democrat runs.
Davis also had an hourlong private meeting with former President Clinton. Davis declined to say what Clinton, whom he called an adviser and mentor for more than a decade, told him
Maybe something along the lines of, "I feel your pain," "better put some ice on that," "it's the economy, stupid," etc. Maybe Davis was warned not to drag the Clinton name down with Davis, or they discussed the price for the Clintons' endorsements.

But didn't McAwful say that there would be no DimBulbs on the ballot? Hm, to think I really believed him this time! (Giggle, giggle!)
Hm, I hope someone forgets to check the mics again for that was one of the most entertaining things to come out of Old Sac in a very long time.
Ok, so which one of the illustrious Senate/House Dem personages will be the first to announce? Poor Boxer forgot that Clinton friend Flynt defended him and other Dems and now calls him a pornogrpaher! Tsk, tsk.

Pornographer! Geeze spelling, woman!

so did this go before the Supremes today? - wot happened?

Loretta Sanchez has been on at least three channels so far saying, quite shyly, "If I am urged, of course I will put my name on the ballot". She is chomping at the bit to get into the race. What a hoot if Ca put her in Sacramento. If it wasn't so sad I would say, let it happen and then let the dems try to spin the total ignorance of their new guv.

My favorite dream: DiFi, Boxer, Sanchez, et al running against one another and openly spilling the dirt on one other - Boxer could be hit for the Indian gambling interests her son represents.
Boxer & DiFi have some explaining to do about their own private weapons...well known "secret" in S.F. City Hall.
Sanchez is an idiot - and will probably get illegals to vote her into office in Mexico.

"When one of the leading candidates is announcing yes or no on Jay Leno, another taking out papers is a publisher of pornography, the thing is turning into a somewhat chaotic situation," Boxer said. You know those elections they have in high school for Prom Queen, where some fat slob class clown enters the contest and ends up winning because everybody votes for him, thinking it would be a real hoot if he won?
I can see that happening in California. Wait and see who the most outrageous candidate is and put your money on him (or her). Howard Stern or Ozzy Osbourne or Marilyn Manson or Courtney Love could win this thing going away. I am serious.

No decision yet. I think the dems will hold out til the court rules. Then, assuming they uphold the constitution (which is unpredictable at best), one of the dems will go on the ballot. I believe it is the repubs who will split the vote.

one of the dems will go on the ballot. Yep, this is the smartest thing they could do. Maybe their whopping egos will prevent it.
