Hollings won't seek re-election in 2004

COLUMBIA, South Carolina (CNN) -- Democratic Sen. Ernest Hollings of South Carolina announced Monday he will not seek re-election in 2004 -- a decision that offers Republicans an opportunity to pick up another seat in the South.

Hollings is 81 and his current term expires in early 2005.

I wish that some other Democrats (Chris Dodd, for example) would also decide that it's no fun to serve in the Senate now that your party is not in control, and just leave and do some good for their country for a change (such as emigrating to Cuba in Dodd's case)...
