The Taiwanese replacement for the F-5 is essentially an underpowered F-21 Huh? The F-21 was the designation used for IAI Kfirs flown as "Aggressor" aircraft by the US navy.
The Taiwnese built Ching-kuo owes more to the F-16 (scaled down in size and twin engined)

At any rate, I would take the Russian AA-12 over an older AIM-7 Sparrow any day.

Like the F-5, and the F-20, this bird has no legs. Short range. THe CHICOM are going to outnumber our Taiwanese friends by at least 10-1 in the air anyway.
