I don't buy it. If someone comes to me and says they've been raped I call the cops or at the least tell my manager, I don't drive them home.

You or I would, but if you're a teenager with a crying beat-up girl asking you to drive her home, are you necessarily going to think through your reaction? Plus, at practically midnight, is there even a manager on duty? And why would you not drive her to the hospital instead of driving her to the police if she's claiming rape?
Ultimately, the bellman probably did what most kids working at a posh hotel would do - he just did what he was told and didn't think outside the box.
