Suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem.

No, it's a permanent non-solution to a temporary problem.

He didn't want to go back to truck driving, because it was too dangerous, so he killed himself?

Hmmmmmmm. . .

"He's a lot of person to lose," said his brother, Paul Gottschalk.

And moreso when fully clothed.

Everyone needs a little prayer once in a while, even thong-wearing bicyclists.

Yep, that's why the quip in my group is: suicide, a permanent solution to a temporary problem.

Never could see how anyone could be willing to declare life the winner and themselves the loser.

His thong is thung.

LOL

I like the reconstruction of his thinking that concludes he committed suicide to avoid the risk of personal danger:

"He said he was getting low on funds and he was going to have to figure out something," said Billings, 71. "He didn't want to go back to driving a truck. He thought it was too dangerous."

That almost sounds like the kind of theory a life insurance company might concoct to avoid a claim.

You can file this in the "Damn, he's cynical" drawer. ;-)

Heh. Yes, a guy could get killed driving a truck.
Think I'll throw myself off a cliff instead. You
know, I think he made the best choice.

Never could see how anyone could be willing to declare life the winner and themselves the loser.

I never could see it before this year.

I'm a hell of a good computer programmer. And my people skills are as good as my computer skills.

My work last week (which as usual did not provide enough money for us to survive on) consisted of standing in the summer sun digging nice deep holes in the ground with a pick and rock bar, pouring concrete, and wiring a boat trailer.

But if you check out that's the end of that. Give it time, everything shakes out eventually. I faced two birthdays in a row unemployed, actually was at the job corp office on my birthday the second year. Then last year I got laid off, totaled a car and got evicted all in 6 weeks, fun city. Every team has a rebuilding year once in a while, just gotta tough it out, giving up is just sad, that's announcing to the world that when it came time for a gut check and deciding whether or not you had what it takes the answer was "no". Not a good epitaph for your headstone.
