With all due respect to your knowledge, it seems to me that the Irish "problem" is really, at bottom, a faith-based conflict. It so happens that the English are apostates, brutal, dictatorial, and bloodthirsty--not to mention greedy.

I agree. I also raised the issue with Vere, who told me others had raised it as well. He also asked me to re-read the paragraph in question, which now reads:
