YUCAIPA, Calif. (AP) - A deputy shot and killed a man who had just fatally shot his neighbor in a dispute over slashed tires, authorities said. Donald Van Zant, 74, shot his neighbor Saturday while standing next to a sheriff's deputy, said Robin Haynal, spokeswoman for the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department. Carl Miles, 49, died at Loma Linda University Medical Center.

I'm sure you didn't know this man personally, however, I did. His wife was a lovely person, who happen to suffer from Lupus. Due to the trauma from his death, it triggered a flare up in her Lupus condition and she passed away one month after he was murdered. They left behind a beautiful little nine year old girl. This orphan was under my care until her family could come to California to get her. So, is that what you call a "problem solved"? I don't think so, this is a tragedy I would never wish on anyone. What if it was of your daughter or granddaughter it happened too? Would it still be a problem solved?

No, I don't know either side personally. However, my experience is that in most neighborhood fueds, both sides are at fault.

No matter who's at fault, no one deserves to be murdered!

An armed society is a polite society, NOT, bump. I'd rather put up with random senseless violence than the tyrany of a government that had us unarmed.
How about you?

my experience is that in most neighborhood fueds, both sides are at fault My experience is exactly the opposite.
For instance, this one sounds like one of them didn't like the other one parking in from of his house. Well, it turns out that in most cases, the street is public property and anyone can park anywhere. that is the law.
If someone doesn't like that and decides to "correct " the situation by slashing tires, he is 100% at fault.
From the information so far, Van Zant is 100% at fault. While he is beyond punishment at this point, Miller's family has a strong civil case against him, and I doubt that his heirs will ever see a penny of his estate.

Lets just agree to disagree on this. Your making up a scenario that totally absolves one side and makes the other totally at fault adds nothing to this conversation.

Who said anyone "deserves" to be murdered? I didn't. I just won't get all worked up about a neighborhood feud that turned ugly. In the future, please don't put words in my mouth.

I'd rather put up with random senseless violence than the tyrany of a government that had us unarmed. This is a false dichotomy. I'm pro gun but not a gun worshipper. I also have quite a view of how disfunctional society is becoming and am leaning more and more away from wanting some of my neighbors to be able to carry.

That's the beauty of it. ;-)
