I was on a road trip recently through South Dakota. I'm not an expert on their politics, but it seems strange how Tom Dashle came from a state where billboard signs say, "Help control the animal population. WEAR FUR!"

I took the family through SD on I-90 just last week on vacation. SD should be called "The Hay Bale State." Even the medians are baled. ;O)

The vacation was marvelous, except for the fact that the Rushmore Borglum Story movie is narrated by none other than Little Tommy DaschOle. Also saw what used to be his personal 1971 Pontiac Ventura (a.k.a. Nova) -- with something like 200K miles on it -- in Murdo at the Pioneer Auto Museum.

That SD elects the likes of DaschOle remains one of life's mysteries.
