I am not a Puritan, and never thought much about gambling. But standing in line in convenience stores over the years has filled me with disgust and contempt towards it. Decrepit cars filled with the stubs of losing tickets, (when they are not simply thrown out the window, more often than not), two women buying tickets with pounds and pounds of pitiful rolled coins, story after story, year after year....And if that is not bad enough, the Casino Spams!
Then I see the ads on TV for the casinos, and am baffled how anyone could consider that a good time- I would rather have a root canal during an IRS audit than set foot in one.
"Gambling is a tax on people who do not understand statistics".
To me at least, it appears to be a stupid, pointless, and futile activity.
One funny aspect to it, though, was a Black friend telling me that "A car floor covered with losing lottery tickets is a White Trash Alert".
Like drugs. There's no cost to society.
(Time to end the sarcasm)
To me it's fun and entertaining and more important, none of your business what I do with my money.
