You don't understand. Gambling is a victimless crime -- it only harms the user.

Like drugs. There's no cost to society.

(Time to end the sarcasm)

To me at least, it appears to be a stupid, pointless, and futile activity.

To me it's fun and entertaining and more important, none of your business what I do with my money.

Ditto. I'm a vested Operating Engineer and Teamster. I share your pain.

Jones acknowledged she (made) fraudulent withdrawals (from) CSEA's political action committee

She oughta get leniency for preventing corrupt pols from getting their filthy hands on union funds (/sarcasm off).

But will she still be entitled to her CSEA pension?

Of course! This is California.

I figure it would be faster and easier and safer to just take several twenty dollar bills and flush 'em down the toilet than to support the gambling industry.

Fraud is right under our legislators respective up turned noses and they ignore it.

I guess you're right. And there's nothing we can do about it. If they would make an example out of this woman, maybe then others would think twice. But to give her two measly years for theft of ONE MILLION DOLLARS is ridiculous beyond belief. This will just encourage others to SCREW all of us. Sheeeeesh!

You share my pain. Thanks. When I worked for the state and lived in Sacramento, it just irritated the heck out of me that they took union dues from my paycheck every month and I had no choice in the matter. I opted out of all I could opt out of but they still took money and gave it to this union.

Luckily, I saved all of my email communications with CSEA people. What a bunch of LIARS! They refused to give me a breakdown of how much money they spent on politics. They ENDORSED Gov. Gray Davis who is now being recalled. They spit in our faces! They also supported virtually ALL democrats - pro abortion democrats at that.

Good grief!

My husband made the same point. At least that million dollars didn't go to corrupt pro abortion democrats. But that's the only good thing I can think of about this mess!

My wife is CCPOA (correctional officers). She asked for and got the political part of her dues dropped. So she doesn't pay any of that. They tried to talk her out of it, but she told them she doesn't want them to give her money to people who think it's okay to kill babies.

What a bunch of morons. How can you lose track of a million dollars. Typical brain dead government workers.

What did you expect? These are people who could only get government jobs. I don't know anybody with an ounce of self-respect who'd go near people like that, much less "work" with them. If you can call those parasites "workers" to begin with.

I figure it would be faster and easier and safer to just take several twenty dollar bills and flush 'em down the toilet than to support the gambling industry.

..Or to fill a barrel with dollar bills and toss in a match.

But it would not have the chance-in-a-million of riches.

Unless maybe it set the house on fire, and there was a profitable insurance policy on it.

Plus you would miss the chance of telling your neighbors all about your winnings, while neglecting to mention the losses, or, in an actual case near me, explain why a $50,000 line of credit has remained at $50,000 for twenty years, despite all the "Winnings".

But, as the previous responder said, it's their money...I suppose we all have activities that seem silly to other people.

As long as it does not become my/our problem, fine.

But it often does,

I know what you say. They are true snakes in the grass and NO ONE politically has the kahoneys to go after this corruption. Makes me want to vomit, (on them of course).

The head of my former Teamsters local is named Doug Bush. He's from back East like our President's family. You should have seen some of his diatribes against GWB in 2000. You'd have thought the union reps name was Mikhail Bush. Such fools. I would love to see an effective anti-union movement rise up in America. What a glorious day that would be.

So she doesn't pay any of that.

Well, actually she does because her forced dues go to pay for overhead and salaries of the CSEA staff who turn around and SCREW US UP ONE SIDE AND DOWN THE OTHER. In other words, your wife - and me when I used to work for the state - make it possible for CSEA to support pro abortion candidates. See what I mean?

Imagine if you were a CA state worker, forced to pay union dues (you don't have a choice) and then you find out someone at the union stole a million dollars from the political action fund so they could gamble (flush it down the toilet)! If this weren't so tragic, it would be funny! LOL (sort of)!

No kidding! Actually there is a "right to work" movement but I guess they don't have much clout. Too bad. Maybe some day.

Well my wife pays for CCPOA staff, but the political contribution portion of the CCPOA has been deducted from her monthly dues. Can't stop them from hiring staff or having benefits programs.
