"It is becoming harder and harder to find an SF resident who sympathizes with the homeless in this city or the Board of Supervisors who support them. I'm tired of feeling like it should just be a given that if you live in SF you will be harrased about three times a week for money. And I refuse to feel powerless against this city's ridiculous homeless advocacy groups. Where has the ultra-liberal approach to homeless got us? No where! It's turned this city into a disgusting dump! My friend works at the SF General Psychiatric Ward, and he says it's common knowledge that for about three days after the $359 check is given out, the emergency rooms will be flooded with overdoses and mentally ill people coming down hard off drug binges...

There are many good replies, for example JustACop:

"The fact of the matter is, the homeless in SF are mostly criminals. I know I am generalizing, but I am speaking from 1st hand experience. I worked the 6th street and South of Market Beat for many years. I have worked the Tenderloin and Polk street areas and have dealt with them 10 hours a day as an SF cop. Most of the homeless are drug users, parolees who have been arrested many times over for violent crimes, drug dealers, and yes the mentally ill. Majority of them are not even San Francisicans. They are very open when we arrest them and they tell us, they come to SF because they know the law is weak here, the Assistance checks are higher because addition to the SS they collect (yes--someone addicted to drugs is considered a disabled person and can legally collect SS at any age) they get additional benifits paid by our generious City Hall. Some come here from as far as New Jersey, Washington State, and Florida. Why, because word is out that this City is the best place to be homeless. You think San Jose or Los Angeles puts up with all this lawlessness? They can sell dope, break into cars, get paid from the City, piss and crap all over SF, camp anywhere they want (free tents and shopping carts provided by the Homeless Groups), all with full immunity. On top of it, people give them money when they walk by them.

This discussion interests me because it shows what normal, fairly 'liberal-minded' individuals think of what is going on in SF. Not a single replier has defended the "homeless", or those who support them.

I have a feeling a political upheaval is on the way.

Craigslist is a free, open forum, but I see no need to freep them, or take any action such as posting to the thread. It is sometimes better to let moderates and people of good will come to their own conclusions without pestering them.

California, where liberalism has been given free reign, and San Francisco is its city.

Take a good look at our future if the liberals gain total control.

"This discussion interests me because it shows what normal, fairly 'liberal-minded' individuals think of what is going on in SF."

Do you get the impression that these "normal, fairly 'liberal-minded' individuals" think this is somehow worse recently, or are they just that slow on the uptake?

My URL opens to the threaded discussion page. The discussion in question is now about halfway down, entitled "I'm loving all this frustration regarding bums.." by the aforementioned sammyrock801.

Unfortunately, there's no way to bookmark a discussion on craigslist because the pages are dynamically generated, and there's no search. Latecomers will have to page back until they hit 08/01 18:58 where this thread is located.

Gosh darn it! I corrected all JustACop's typos and left my own! I always screw up the titles because I waste all my time correcting the text...

Both. As the problem gets worse, it becomes more noticable, and comes to the attention of the general public. Until then they're too busy with their own lives to care what's going on.

I have an idea. In order to finally tip the scales and show the idiot liberals living in SF what the logical conclusion of their policy is, why not donate money towards a bus tour which will round up all homeless from everywhere in the nation and bring them to San Faggisco? Why wait for the slow migration of these vagabonds to take effect? Let us roll this boulder over the hill.

What do you guys think? How can liberal homeless advocates in SF have any objection to this?

I usd to work at 960 Howard St., just around the corner from 6th & Mission.
Absolutely stunning area!

I recommend that the tourists don't miss it!

Don't worry about all these picayune perfectionists on here that NEVER make a mistake at all in their perfect lives.

They have nothing better than to run a spell check on the entire board BEFORE they will blaspheme their eyes with the possibilities of IMPERFECTION!

"Both. As the problem gets worse..."

Wow, that is truly sad. I lived in the Bay Area 18 years ago and everything mentioned by the cop and more (the smell of urine, aggressive panhandling, drug dealing, etc.) were perfectly obvious and quite disgusting to this conservative from SoCal.

My favorite, though, were the homeless with cute little puppies raking in the dough from the kindhearted SF liberals. I guess that scam might not be working anymore.

A month ago I visited San Francisco as a tourist for my first and very likely last time. Homeless and panhandlers were literally everywhere it seemed. But I saw a new twist on the puppy scam. Two guys sat together with their sign, one held the change bowl and the other the pup. Except the one with the pup kept pointing a finger-gun at it's head and threatening he'd shoot the pup later if people didn't give money. One step past begging and right up next to extortion. I still regret not getting on the cell phone and calling the cops on the ba$tards.

Another one had a sign that said "Need $$ for weed." Give him credit for honesty I guess.

The place exceeded all the worst I'd read about or envisioned. Mayor Willie Brown or Green or whatever his name is needs to take a big lesson from Rudy Giuliani.

I have a feeling a political upheaval is on the way.

And it's being driven from Southern California. Just like this historic recall effort/payback for 187. About 80 percent of the recall signatures came out of Southern California. Change is a comin.......

Three times a week?  Big fricken deal.  I get it three times a day walking to and from work in Seattle.

And that's not an exaggeration.

Nor is that walking through a poor part of town;  I'm talking right in the middle of the "nice" area.  If you walk the other direction - toward Pioneer Square, it gets much, much worse.

I have lost all sympathy for the "homeless".

As resident of Washington state, I'm glad that SF is acting as the west coast's 'creep magnet'. Think of how much better off other cities are because of this vital public service.(With apologies to those few remaining sane San Franciscans who are barriceded in their home praying for a timely arrival of the calvary.)
