Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputy killed in Mojave Desert
Saturday August 02, 2003LLANO, Calif. (AP) A Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputy was killed Saturday and deputies were searching for a suspect, officials said.
Residents of this community along Highway 138 reported hearing gunshots before the male deputy was found dead around 12:30 p.m., Deputy Faye Bugarin said.
No further details were immediately available. It was not clear if the deputy had died from gunshot wounds.
Llano is about 40 miles northeast of Los Angeles, on the western fringes of the Mojave Desert.
