Nah. Something tells me I should stay far, far away from this situation. It's gonna be a long night for those guys.
Speaking of going places, I'm leaving for awhile. I have a hot date! not really.
I trust you all will post pertinent information. I'm taking my handheld scanner in the car, just in case.
Thanks, everybody!

KNX 1070 (radio) news said the officer was a 12 year vet in the service. He was responding to a trespassing call when he was killed. The address is on (spelling wrong, I know) Lago Vista. There will be a press conference within the hour.
They gave his name....so I assume it's OK for me to, also.
I'll wait for the OK from the Mod. It WAS given on the radio.

Thanks for the Ping.
We pulled over for a CHP car with full lights and sirens racing eastbound on Avenue I at around 1:30 this afternoon. He kept going way past Division.
Possibly related?

Boy are you wrong! Having lived one time out in the High Desert of the Mojave Desert I can gar-un-tee that there are more guns per house than just about any place in the nation. I would never drive up to a remote house out there
with out an invite or by annoucing myself somehow from aways off.

LA sheriff's deputy killed in Mojave Desert
Saturday August 02, 2003 PALMDALE, Calif. (AP) Authorities were searching for a suspect who shot and killed a Los Angeles County sheriff's deputy following a struggle Saturday.
Deputy Stephen Sorensen, a 12-year veteran, was killed while responding to a trespassing call shortly after 12:30 p.m. near Highway 138, east of Palmdale, Undersheriff William Stonich said.
A witness reported hearing about a half dozen gunshots and called authorities, Stonich said. Deputies at the scene located Sorensen's unoccupied patrol car.
``We found our deputy's vehicle but did not find our deputy,'' Stonich said. The deputy's body was found within an hour a ``short distance from where the struggle took place,'' he said.
The deputy had been shot but it was unclear whether he had been involved in a gun battle, said sheriff's Deputy Faye Bugarin.
Sheriff's investigators were being assisted in their search by the California Highway Patrol, a SWAT team and a bomb squad.
No arrests have been made.
Sorensen was married and had an adult son and an adopted child, authorities said.
Palmdale is about 40 miles northeast of Los Angeles, on the western fringes of the Mojave Desert.

You're smarter than the average desert dweller -- you know, not long after I moved in, I was floored to receive a visit one night. These two guys opened my closed gate, walked past my No Trespassing sign, 150 feet up my driveway, in the pitch dark, to knock on my door at 10 p.m.? It was astonishing.

I'm back. Thanks so much for the updates. I took a quick glance and it appears nothing else has happened. Except that the knowledge has dawned on us that the 'lead' phoned in mid-afternoon (the suspect beating feet eastward in the desert) was not properly followed to an end. The last I heard before going in to dinner was a scramble to set up a sixteen-mile perimeter in a place where the suspect might have been seen three hours before.
Trespassing? gosh.
