I'm not certain, but I think that when we use the word, we mean the vertebra just below the skull, as in "atlo-axial" joint or vertebrae. They are using the term to refer to the large one between your back and neck. Our term comes from the idea of your skull being like a globe and sitting on that vertebra, theirs refers to the vertebra in the actual location where the weight of the globe would be resting if atlas actually held it -- the one where the bar tends to sit if you do squats.

The Britain that dealt with the Thugs was a very different entity than the Britain of today.

Then the Nations of the United Kingdom were led by men who were proud of their heritage; proud of their bloodlines, ancestral accomplishments & culture; men determined to prove themselves worthy of an honored past. Between the draining effect of wars without conscription, prior to 1916; emigration of the best, brightest and boldest to places like South Africa, Rhodesia, Australia, Kenya; and the brightest to other English speaking lands; and the disasterous demographic effects of a class warfare driven welfare state, that there--as here--increased the proportion of the less intelligent in Society, while universal suffrage gave that new majority more power than any rational person, not committed to Socialism, would think advisable; Britain was already terribly undermined, long before the flood from the Third World descended upon them with the abandonment of the Empire.

Had British Society not already moved terribly far Left, a rational response would have terminated Third World Immigration in the 1960s--or 1970s, at the latest. As it is the whole deteriorating mess is careening towards chaos. It is very sad; but no one--since Enoch Powell, a generation ago--seems even aware of the extent of the problem. In a land, where Fabian Socialist values have been inculcated via the propaganda of a false egalitarian "idealism," it is considered a dangerous thing to talk about reality.
