How does one track and quantify the number of workers who have left the work force ?

By asking a very large sample of Americans each month whether they are employed and if not, have they looked for work during the month. If they havent at least LOOKED for work, they have left the work force. You can find more details on the Labor Department website or you can search FR archives for a posting I did last month on how they do (from the Labor Department website).
