It would be even nicer to see them take some public actions in response to the public statements of certain Catholics who seem to think it's their right to instruct people about the Catholic faith in a way that defies the Church's actual authorities.

There have to be some Freepers here with some kind of pull in the RCC. Why isn't the RCC at least publically condemning Cahtolic hating, abortion supporting CINOs?
I understand excommunication is considered extreme in Catholic doctrine, but I also seem to remember from my European history that the RCC has a host of lessor punishments and such to try and bring wayword Catholic back to the church, or at least let the faithful know the church does not approve...

Yes. O'Malley should issue a statement and clear the air, otherwise the uncatechized flock may learn from a bad example.
