I agree he did an outstanding job.
Very good show, except having to wait around for an hour before it came on, which made it difficult due to JAG being on CBS...
Love the part where they were tormenting their captors by singing Toby Keith's song...what no dixie chicks' songs????

Don't feel guilty for posting it early ..... without the head's up, I would never have seen it because I
never watch NBC .... or Dateline.
The segment on the POWs was excellent ... difficult to watch at times as they struggled with their emotions in telling of the firefight, the loss of comrades, and the early days of their captivity ..... quite heartwarming to see them express their strong will to live and to see them laughing in the latter parts of the interview.

Love the part where they were tormenting their captors by singing Toby Keith's song...
Pvt. Miller of Kansas is (as I understand it) both one of the soldiers who
made some Iraqis pay and was known to have tormented his captors with his
imitation of Toby Keith.
We had a thread about Miller getting welcomed back with a hometown ceremony in Kansas.
As best I recall, Miller was being coaxed to give his rendition of "The Angry American"
when some yahoo in sunglasses and straw hat jumps on stage to help Miller along...of course,
it was one Toby Keith.
Keith suppossedly helped with the song, disappeared into the background, and gave
Miller a signature guitar after the ceremony was over.
Too bad it disappeared into cyberspace, but the thread/article had a picture
of Miller belting it out, Keith singing with a hugh grin, and some local good old boy
hollering to the heavens.
PRICELESS!
Whisky for my men,
beer for my horses!

I agree. I think he was more embarrassed that they had to surrender. This really pissed him off.

I've been trying like crazy to learn how to post the song. Seems appropriate for this thread.

I think he was more embarrassed that they had to surrender. This really pissed him off.
He sounds like he should have the nickname "The Black Knight" (as in Monty Python and
The Holy Grail).
Now I go watch the show.

The transcript of the interview
Some excerpts:
Disturbing as it was to see wounded Americans paraded for Iraqi cameras, it was the image of a female POW, that made America gasp.
Shoshana Johnson: "Once they figured out I was a female, they immediately separated me from the males."
Phillips: "Right there on the scene."
Johnson: "I was taken somewhere else."
Phillips: "What did they do with you?"
Johnson: "They bandaged my wounds."
Phillips: "Fairly soon after all of this happened?"
Johnson: "Yes."
Phillips: "And then taken for the interrogation, the television interrogation?"
Johnson: "Yes. And they made it fairly obvious that they had bandaged my leg. And I guess to make it seem like they had given some medical care."
Phillips: "You were looking back and forth."
Johnson: "To the person holding the microphone was not the person who was speaking English so I just looked back and forth between them."
Phillips: "Your parents said they thought you looked very frightened."
Johnson: "I was. It's the unknown. You don't know what's going to happen to you I was in a lot of pain. And I was angry, too."
When Shoshana Johnson talks about what happened when she was seperated she pauses and chokes up when she says "I was taken somewhere else." I got the impression she was holding something back. Patrick Miller definitely had something to say and the others sure shut him up in a hurry when he started to talk:
Dateline has been told that in the first hours of captivity, several of the POWs were beaten with rifle butts, slapped, kicked and humiliated. But when Private Miller began describing what happened to him right after he surrendered
Miller:: "They brought me back down the road and some Iraqi came and punched me in the mouth."
The group cautioned him to go no further.
Group: "Don't go there."
Phillips: "Let me just say this for the viewers, the issue of physical abuse is still under investigation by the army. You have been instructed not to talk about that?"
Group: "That's correct, sir."
