[history]
Backing away from political controversy, Gov. Gray Davis decided Thursday that he won't ask taxpayers to cover his campaign costs if he wins the October recall election.
Davis had said Wednesday that he was undecided about whether to seek millions of dollars in reimbursement for his campaign costs, but he issued a statement Thursday saying he would not ask for repayment.

But if he loses, he will sue - right?Yup! We won't know the finality of the recall until it goes through the Cal Supreme Court and then on to SCOTUS. Davis will ask for attorneys's fees.

State NAACP President Alice Huffman ... said the time is needed to educate voters about the recall process and about new polling locations, and to put in place reliable voting machines. Otherwise, she said, minority voters would be disenfranchised in violation of the 14th Amendment. Very condescending to "minorities", whatever that is these days! Is getting to the voting booth and punching a ballot a mental challenge requiring special re-education every election?

I DO think that California should move, as some other states have done, to a "rolling election day" system. Essentially, instead of having just one day on which to vote, you'd have a week or two, with "Election Day" being the final day of the period. Of course, most of the canvassing stations wouldn't be open until Election Day; to vote before then, you might have to drive a few more miles.
As for me, I always vote absentee, "vote by mail." (I think Oregon does its elections that way now: no more polling stations at all.) That way, I cannot be prevented from voting by a last-minute problem -- and if, God forbid, I'm crushed by a meteor before Election Day, my vote still counts, just like a 1960 dead Chicagoan's.

He takes 38 Billion from the State, but won't do anymore than that if he wins!

Alright, now
I've heard everything, after this little nugget buried deep down;
State NAACP President Alice Huffman said the organization will go to court by early next week to seek a delay of at least a month in the recall election. She said the time is needed to educate voters about the recall process and about new polling locations, and to put in place reliable voting machines. Otherwise, she said, minority voters would be disenfranchised in violation of the 14th Amendment.
Proving conclusively that the NAACP is nothing but a Democratic Party front group. That settles it. I've been following this recall and this is the first time I've heard this is a racial issue, and now they are suddenly sueing?
On what possible grounds, I mean if anyone challenges their idiocy they will find that their only justification on the 14th Amendment is that blacks are obviously too stupid to vote on Oct 7th like every other Californian and need Special Education to understand they must turn out and pull the lever. How pathetic. Does the NAACP want to make that point in public?
Bring it on liberal black activists.
