Jesse Jackson to Invade the Birthplace of the GOP
WKHM Radio - Jackson | 07/31/03 | Kieri

Posted on 07/31/2003 5:09:36 PM PDT by Kieri

This morning Jackson, Michigan's talk radio announced that Jesse Jackson will be invading Michigan starting this weekend. He'll be in Jackson (a much wrongly-maligned city, imho) on Sunday.

Somehow I don't think he'll be an exhibit at the Jackson County Fair (which starts Sunday too)...

This really bugs me. I'm going to send an email to Hannity's website. Maybe he can say something -- ANYTHING -- about it tomorrow!

HTMK constantly promotes Jackson as the "Birthplace of the Republican Party." My heart has definately warmed to this wonderful place since we moved. The people are awesome.

For someone so worried about Libia, Jesse certainly travels to a lot of places other than Libia.

Just look for him where the bullets aren't flying but the television cameras are rolling. I think I'll become a NASCAR fan.

Nope, it's Jackson, MI. There's a wonderful, green sign trumpeting that fact on every major road entering the city. I get such a kick out them -- there's a lovely thing about knowing Democrats are tweaked every time they come to town!

bzzz, sorry, wrong answer. I refer you to the RNC's own web site: http://www.rnc.org/gopinfo/history.

Other similar meetings may have taken place around the same time, but the first one was in Ripon, WI.

Jacson is proud to be the birthplace of the pubbies? Well, Jackson is also the home of the state prison. They must keep the Democrats in there.

From the City of Jackson's Website:

Jackson Michigan, Birth place of the Republican Party. On July 6, 1854, in Jackson, Mich., the Republican Party formally organized itself by holding its first convention, adopting a platform and nominating a full slate of candidates for state offices. Other states soon followed, and the first Republican candidate for president, John C. Fremont, ran in 1856 with the slogan "Free soil, free labor, free speech, free men, Fremont."

An argument can definately be made here. Ripon hosted the first "informal meeting" but the name "Republican Party" and the first OFFICIAL meeting took place in Jackson.

"The first official Republican meeting took place on July 6th, 1854 in Jackson, Michigan. The name "Republican" was chosen because it alluded to equality and reminded individuals of Thomas Jefferson's Democratic-Republican Party. At the Jackson convention, the new party adopted a platform and nominated candidates for office in Michigan."

What would he find in Jackson? Will he visit the prison? Corrections officers there probably won't care much for him.

I hope he makes a wrong turn on Francis Street at night. LOL. (I've done that myself)

If we're lucky, some enterprising reporter might snap a picture of Jesse at The School House!

(For those outside of Jackson, "The School House" is a strip club that the city is forcing out by not allowing them to serve alcohol and stripping them (hehe) of their lease at the end of 15 months.)

From my reading of it, the first meeting in ripon had its attendees deciding to dissolve the tories and free soiler parties, and form a new party called the republican party. Don't know if they were following robert's rules of order for that meeting, but it couldn't really be the first meeting of the republican party unless they called that meeting to a close and then restarted it right away as a republican party meeting. Therefore, the first 'official' meeting wouldn't be on that day, but the party would have been born on that day and in that schoolhouse.

I found an article on Jackson's spread of pestilence. He's going to plague Flint, Saginaw, Lansing and Jackson on Sunday and then infect Benton Harbor on Monday.

http://www.woodtv.com/Global/story.asp?S=1383123&nav=0RcdHD3u

Jesse Jackson plans another visit to Benton Harbor

(Benton Harbor-AP, July 31, 2003, 6:50 a.m.) The Reverend Jesse Jackson is planning another visit to Benton Harbor, where riots erupted last month. The civil rights leader also will tour several other Michigan communities to highlight employment, justice and education issues.

State lawmakers will accompany him as he visits Saginaw, Flint, Lansing and Jackson on Sunday, and travel to Battle Creek on Monday. Jackson then will attend a leadership meeting in Benton Harbor and march from city hall to the Berrien County Jail.

Jackson visited Benton Harbor shortly after rioters destroyed 22 homes. The civil unrest developed after the death of a motorcyclist during a high-speed chase involving police from neighboring Benton Township. The Berrien County prosecutor has since cleared police of any wrongdoing in the motorcyclist's death.

Jackson also has announced plans to open a chapter of his "Rainbow-PUSH" Coalition in Lansing to help develop a long-term plan to help economically distressed Michigan communities.<p

Just don't do it on North Cooper, Dano. That's where The Big House is.

And K is right about Jacktown being the birthplace of the Pubbie Party. There's a much, much better monument commemorating that historic event under the oaks at the intersection of Second and Franklin to prove it. It's much more grandiose than that ratty old shack that those chees eating birthplace usurpers in Ripon try to pass off on the unknowing public. It's also the place where I, as a young attendee of the famous T. A. Wilson Elementary School, shook hands with the great D. D. Eisenhower when he came there to honor that monument and give a speech during one of his campaigns for the presidency. So there.
