Coleman launches inquiry into RIAA's piracy crackdown
(Washington-AP) -- Senator Norm Coleman has begun an inquiry into the recording industry's copyright lawsuits against online music swappers.Coleman says the recording industry's tactics could ensnare innocent people.
The Minnesota Republican chairs the Senate's permanent subcommittee on investigations. He's asked the Recording Industry Association of America for copies of its subpoenas issued to Internet providers, and description of its safeguards against targeting innocent people.
Coleman says the industry has legitimate concerns about copyright infringement. But he says the industry seems to have adopted a ``shotgun'' approach that could hurt people who don't know the rules about digital sharing of files.
The RIAA has issued 900 federal subpoenas against computer users suspected of illegally sharing music files on the Internet.

Awesome!

He won't vote for ANWAR, but I'll still like him if he hits the RIAA right in the choppers.

Thank you Sen. Coleman. Here's a Senator who knows how to position the GOP on the side of the people.

As a native Minnesotan, I must take issue.
As we say here in God's country...the noblest purpose for the state of Minnesota is to shield Ontario from Iowa.
And we have other attributes as well.
Go Gophers!!

We loved our 16 years in Minnesota, where our son went through jr. high and high school and the family learned to enjoy winter sports (we had a couple of sleds) on the ice, the Vikes, hockey in St. Paul, Leinenkugles on tap, etc.
I'm sure you'll agree that Minnesota is a better place because Norm went to law school in Iowa City (where I copped the elusive BA).
Go Hawks !

You're right!
I'll gladly take a Republican Hawkeye over a Gopher Democrat any day.
We are certainly infested with our fair share of Gopher Democrats up here.
And I still salute the great state of Iowa for having produced one Marion Morrison.
My Iowa joke was just that...a quip.
That having been said, I'm sure you'll agree that our National Champion hockey team is better than yours.

The Clones had a hocket team at one point. No one from Iowa ventures out on winter pond ice unless they're suicidal.
Remember hearing the remark, "...the best thing to come out of Iowa was I-35."
Oh, well.

Awesome! This approach by RIAA will fail. They can't go after some of the mega-sharers, which are located offshore. MP3 is so cool. I fit the entire RUSH catalog on two CD's! Same with Supertramp. Nice to have file-sharing for some of the bootleg stuff and imports.
