NC was also a lot closer to the source of the textiles industry's raw materials than NE was, once production of same ramped up.

once production of same ramped up.Yes. And that didn't occur until after widespread development of electricly powered mechanization. Up until then New England's textile mills were largley mechanicly driven by waterwheels.
