The koi fish ponds and other oriental accoutrements were nice. However, as the economy in Japan continued to sour in the 90's, the Westins started getting kinda shabby. I've stayed in one once up in Waltham, MA since the Starwood takeover and it was a good experience.
I haven't stayed in an Embassy Suites in a dog's age but that was my favorite hotel at one time. I don't know if the Hilton acquisition has been good or bad.
However, I've enjoyed Residence Inn's since way before Marriott. The Residence Inn in Orlando was a great place to put up the family. I'd go there again but I think I'll splurge on the Disney Wild Kingdom hotel that overlooks the animals next time we're all there. My 6 year old daughter loves animals.
