Man to die for acid attack on wife, aged 9

Dhaka - A 24-year-old man was sentenced to death in Bangladesh for throwing acid on his nine-year-old bride, disfiguring and blinding her for life, prosecution lawyers said on Tuesday.

A special tribunal in the industrial town of Gazipur, 35km north of the capital Dhaka, handed down the death sentence on Swapan Gazi after a lengthy trial. The tribunal also fined him.

I was at the eye doctor with my mother a few weeks ago. There was a young lady there from Bangladesh. Her face was disfigured and her eye burned. She was very friendly and talkitive. She told me someone threw acid on her while she was sleeping about 5 years ago and she came here for treatment. She also mentioned a friend of hers that is from Bandladesh. She told me the friend also has acid burns that are much worse than hers. I assumed they were together when they were attacked and asked her why someone would throw acid on them. She said it did not happen at the same time and that it was just something people in her country do. She didn't elaborate and I didn't want to be nosey so I didn't ask anymore questions about it. Very sad.

Bangladesh is a predominantly muslim country (it used to be East Pakistan) and the "husband" was almost certainly the same. Among the muslims age nine seems to be popular as the "prophet" Mohammed also "married" just such a little girl.

Muslims are allowed to take wives as young as nine because that's how old Ayesha was when Mohammed married her (Ayesha was his favorite wife; he go in trouble because he slept with her more than his other wives, which is considered a no-no for Muslim polygamists. They're supposed to treat their wives equally. Kind of like what happened on last night's Nip/Tuck, except those girls were about twice as old.)

Hey, why not marry a nine-year-old girl if one is a devout Muslim? The Muslim prophet Mohammad ("peace" be upon his name) did. Mohammad was engaged to a girl when she was six-years-old and consumated the marriage when she turned nine. This Muslim husband was just following in the footsteps of Mohammad.

Sure, the guy could have just raped, beaten the girl or just divorced her on the spot. (That's OK according to Mohammad. So is stoning to death a woman suspected of not being a virgin or adulteress.) But, noooo, he felt it was his husbandly duty to teach his uncooperative wife a lesson by disfiguring her for life. We shouldn't pass judgement on other people's customs--NOT!

And this is the religion/culture that wants to implement worldwide Sharia (barbaric, 7th Century Islamic laws) via bloody, violent jihad. Don't let Muslim LIES (which are also OK if told to non-Muslims according to Mohammad) regarding this incident and other evil displays of "diversity" fool you into thinking that these are just "isolated" acts...

In most Muslim societies, women who are raped are often killed by their own male family members. (If they aren't stoned for adultery due to a woman's testimony being suspect or half that of a man's testimony--plus there must be at least three witnesses to the violation!!!) Rape, pregnancy, and suspicion of pre-marital sex are grounds for murdering a woman in that culture. It's called "honor killing" and it is still going on because that part of the world is chock full of ignorant barbaric "customs" that even the few sane, logical Muslims find appalling.
