A .50-caliber BMG sniper rifle, in the wrong hands, would be terrorism unleashed.

The gun is powerful enough to punch a hole in an oil tank or take down a civilian airplane. Its 5 1/2-inch long bullets can pierce an inch of armor 40 yards away and hit a target a mile away. A massive weapon, with some models weighing in at 28 pounds, it's ill-suited for hunters -- it would take out a deer and the tree behind it -- but ideal for assassins.

Rights are not subject to compromise or debate. You either possess them or you don't. It's that simple.

With prices falling, some sell for as little as $1,000.

Best part of the whole article!! At those prices, seems there should be a shortage of them as they are snapped up 5 or six at a time.

That's a great choice. See this link for the letter from Ronnie Barrett, the owner of Barrett Firearms, to the Chief of the LAPD. Sorry for not linking my, my HTML skills leave much to be desired.

Why would a govt fear an armed decent citizen?
When he/she/it is guilty as sin of betraying that citizen's family state nation consitution perhaps?

A standard hunting rifle was used to shoot a hole in the Alaska pipeline. When are they going after them?

Of course, the Kentucky rifle was considered a sniper rifle also. I guess all the black powder fans can prepare to lose their antiques.

Wasn't the first .50 cal BMG rifle built for the civilian market and later they were incorporated into the military?

I thought I read that somewhere.

"...hey I got a Makita cordless drill that can punch holes in stuff too (with the right hole saw attached I could liberate the hot air trapped in a lib gun grabbers cranium although it would be quite messy)...oh the humanity..."

Better use a diamond tipped saw. There's very little that can penetrate the typical liberal's cranium. Their skulls are composed of pure Impervium Commonsensium.
