NASCAR Cuts Off Funding To Jesse Jackson's Group

(CNSNews.com) - The National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing has cut off all funding for Jesse Jackson's Rainbow/PUSH Coalition, USA Today reported. According to the newspaper, "A person familiar with NASCAR's internal decisions confirmed that the racing organization has not paid Jackson's group any money in 2003 and doesn't plan to." USA Today reported that NASCAR has given a total of $250,000 to the Rainbow/PUSH sports division, generating criticism from conservative groups and racing fans, who see the money as appeasement. As CNSNews.com reported earlier, Bill Shack, a board member of Jackson's Rainbow/PUSH Coalition, said auto-racing organizations such as NASCAR are "the last bastion of white supremacy." According to Shack, race-car organizations don't reach out to minorities because they "don't particularly...want you out there, no more than they wanted Tiger [golfer Tiger Woods] out there." Ironically, NASCAR was a "platinum" sponsor of the Rainbow/PUSH Coalition's annual conference in 2002. Scroll News This Hour and See Earlier Story

About time they woke up. As if they should have caved and paid $$$ in the first place.

That explains the comments made buy Shack. NASCAR didn't pay them hush money this year.

Saw this in USA Today today. They give a better account. Says that the funds to Rainbow crap was hurting efforts to support troops. Other corporations should take note.

Oustanding!

Finally, someone/thing has stood up to the race hustler.

Now if the NFL would grow some stones we might be able to 'retire' the Reverend.

I'm not a huge NASCAR fan, but I was suprised to see the following at the NASCAR website:

"Turner Sports Interactive, an AOL Time Warner Company, acquired all of NASCAR's interactive rights in October 2000 and became the exclusive producer of NASCAR.com, the official site of NASCAR, in January 2001."

I'm sure the bad press they received had a great deal to do with this decision.

It was an odd arrangement from the getgo. The only thing JJ has in common with NASCAR is the big left turn.

Black conservative ping

If you want on (or off) of my black conservative ping list, please let me know via FREEPmail. (And no, you don't have to be black to be on the list!)

Extra warning: this is a high-volume ping list.

Meet James Stewart. He is the 125cc National Champion in SuperCross and MotoCross. He didn't need Jesse Jackson pimping for him to win races and receive the respect of fans and fellow racers. He did it the old fashioned way ... He earned it. He worked harder, trained harder, and pushed harder than anyone else in the series, and he is the MAN. No pimping/shakedown BS necessary.

The same applies in NASCAR as well. "White Supremacy" my ass ... just cross the finish line first ... then you are the man.

What does "didn't reach out to minorities?" So now they have to recruit? If a black guy wants to race he gets some sponsors, some money, and puts a team together. There is no one keeping anyone out, SFAIK...SSZ
