Big confab this week in San Francisco -- with the state's top Democratic and union consultants coming to town for a sit-down with Mayor Willie Brown.
The mission: To come up with a plan to ensure that a Democrat is in control of the governor's office.

He did more behind the scenes to screw this state then Wesson could ever dream of.
Media says: Please run a liberal Republican...you can't win with a Conservative...and we REALLY want a Republican to win! Not!

DIALING FOR DAVIS: Sources say Gov. Gray Davis probably won't be holding high-profile fund-raisers, not wanting to reinforce what critics have been charging all along -- that his policies are driven by the interests of his big- buck contributors.
Still, Davis and fellow Democrats will be hitting the phones -- looking to raise anywhere from $15 million to $30 million over the next couple of months.
"Just do the math," said one Davis operative who's fighting the recall. "It's going to take at least eight weeks of TV at a million a week -- and that's only buying airtime."
Whether the Davis camp can raise that kind of money depends largely on which Republicans wind up running.
If it's someone like a more liberal-minded Richard Riordan or Arnold Schwarzenegger, then Davis will be facing a hard road -- even among his biggest backers.
The reason: The governor has been to the well so many times that people are saying enough is enough.
Davis' best bet is if Riordan and Schwarzenegger stay out -- so that Democrats will be faced with conservatives like Darrell Issa, Bill Simon or Tom McClintock.
If that happens, they expect the floodgates to open.(For Davis to get needed money )

Davi$ is scared .. period. The voters have had enough of his antics and incompetence. Passing the buck won't cut it on this Octiober 7 2-part ballot. He fails #1 miserably. #2 and the successor can't be any worse than what we have... because the electorate is aroused and wants action not rhetoric. Too much is at stake for the future of this state.
In case anyone didn't believe that the Democrat Party was simply a collection of special interests groups, there it is, straight from their own mouths.
And Davis can get the money IF the money people think he can be successful painting all those wanting to recall him as Hard Right Conservative. ie. he is the lesser of the two evils.
If Riordan or Arnooold run he can't do that and won't get the money the Pro's think he needs to dominate the airwaves like he did against Simon!
We need one of them to run, without them running Davis might be able to survive!
AND just because they are running doesn't mean they can win.
I would like the odds for Issa or McClintock !
Maybe Wille is going to say "vote for me"!
Open Mike Catches California Democrats (AP) - Unaware that a live microphone was broadcasting their words around the Capitol, Assembly Democrats meeting behind closed doors debated prolonging California's budget crisis for political gain. Members of the coalition of liberal Democrats talked about slowing progress on the budget as a means of increasing pressure on Republicans. A microphone had been left on during the closed meeting Monday, and the conversation was transmitted to about 500 "squawk boxes" that enable staff members, lobbyists and reporters to listen in on legislative meetings.
