Ludwigslust, Germany - A man who whipped his fiancee with a cat faces prosecution under Germany's strict animal-rights laws, police said Monday.
In a drunken rage, the 43-year-old picked up the pet cat and repeatedly beat his fiancee with the feline until the animal was a bloody pulp.
It was unclear whether the 49-year-old woman would file charges of assault. She sustained cuts and bruises.
The cat did not survive and the man now faces prosecution under stiff animal-rights laws.
A year ago, Germany amended its constitution to protect the rights of all animals. Persons who unlawfully harm or kill animals are liable to steep fines and jail terms.

I'm not a cat person but anyone who mistreats an animal in that manner ought to be beaten senseless and left in stocks at the town square.

All he was doing was tenderizing the meat. Give the guy a break.

I definitely agree, and I positively hate cats.

She might want to consider calling off the wedding. First it's cats, then it's dogs, you never know where it will end.
Personally, I think she should have shot the SOB.

There have always been laws preventing cruelty, af least in my life time. For me the problem is the stiff new penalty part. I mean if you can buy a cat for 10 bucks I dont think it equates to prison time. Maybe one day or a monetary fee. To me this puts more value on the animal than society really does. Seems cruel to the human.

it seems the German authorities are more worried about it than the fiancee! Probably a stiffer sentence for what he did to the cat. Could just be good discretion by the prosecutor.

Do they fine animals for cruelty to other animals? If an animal causes me monetary loss can I sue the animal?
To: dubyaismypresident
Animals have rights under the German constitution, do they get to vote too? I don't know, man. The better question is how many support Gerhard Schroeder!

I don't know, man. The better question is how many support Gerhard Schroeder! I'm guessing dead animals vote heavily for Schroeder.

Seems cruel to the human.I understand your sentiment and wish to point out that Leftists agree with your logic. After all, you can make a baby without paying a dime, and society permits abortion legally -- ergo by this logic society values human babies less than cats. And of course, for Leftists, especially Greenie PETA Leftists, this is true.
