Thanks for the great picture of Bob Hope. I count myself fortunate to have seen one of his USO shows in Okinawa in 1971. He was a great American, a man who truly cared about our guys in harms way. He will be sorely missed!

Too sad -- he was a great American and he was a real hero. Unfortunately, there is no one to take his place.
Bob Hope -- God Bless and thanks for the memories!

Now I'm glad I went to the the 100th birthday party at the Reagan Library last spring. I'll have to watch "Beau James" and the Paleface sequence this week.

Here's bad news for Monday morning.
Go with God, Mr. Hope.
(I just hate it when I've outlived all my heroes: John Wayne, Audie Murphy, Bob Hope, Roy Rogers...)

I just missed seeing Bob's show in Vietnam aboard the America. In fact, I caught the COD out of Da Nang that he and his crew came in on. I've always regreted missing him. No single person has ever done more to support and raise the morale of our troops than Bob Hope. He will be missed very much.

Bob Hope 1903 - 2003
To: Snickersnee
Saw him at Bien Hoa AB, Dec. 25, 1965. Joey Heatherton! Yum.Man, I was TWO DAYS OLD! Seriously though, only someone who's seen him while far from home can truly appreciate the impact that man had for MILLIONS of American servicemen (and women). I saw him in '91, my father, who was barely 18 at the time, has a picture of him with Mr. Hope in England, 1944.
There will never be another Bob Hope.

I just found out Bob was born in England.
His family immigrated here in the early 1900's.
Thanks for the fine memories Bob!
I remember a Paul Harvey "Rest of the story" describing Hope's initial day at a Cleveland area elementary school. he had just arrived in the US from England where by tradtion a new student would stand at his desk and announce his name - last name followed by his first. Here's the kicker - his first name was Leslie. His new classmates heard "My name is Hope, Leslie". A funny man from the beginning.
