I remember many years ago when the Calypso came to my home town of Cold Bay. I was 16 at the time and was sent down to see if any of the crew wanted to come into town and watch the movie playing that night. On the dock there was an older man and I told him what my mission was. In an accented English he told me he had no interest but I was welcome to go aboard and tell ask the rest of the crew. I had no takers, but they did treat me to some French wine and cigarettes. Boy were they both strong! It was years later when I realized who that man on the dock was. That was my one and only encounter with the man and the boat.

The Calypso showed up in the Washington Marina way back when the kids were still babies. We went down and clambered around through the ship, kids, buggies, and all.
