Private Lynch earned her Bronze Star in her own right. Don't blame Private Lynch if the press and some PR types decided to make her a celebrity.

How, exactly? Anybody could be in a vehicle accident and get captured. I'm not saying she did anything wrong, but what did she do that any other soldier would not have done?

She didn't earn it. She was given one as a PR ploy and apparently you've bought into it.

Being injured in a vehicular accident doesn't earn one a Bronze Star. See my previous post about the Bronze Star.

This is the most important thing to remember. I have mixed feelings about a lot of this, but it's the press (and some of the over-the-top comments from observers and pundits, like the suggestion that she be awarded the Medal of Honor) I take issue with - not Pfc. Lynch.

Exactly. She certainly has paid the price for her country. They are all heroes.

"Private Lynch earned her Bronze Star in her own right."

How? By getting injured in a car wreck?

Amen. And none of this brouhaha would even be taking place if Private Lynch were a man. Because then no one would be questioning the actions. Sick. And petty.

For what?

The Bronze Star, with a "V" for valor is nothing more than a Commendation Ribbon, with medal pendant.

Sounds to me that Walters should have gotten the "V".

OH really? HOW? Let's read....

"The Bronze Star Medal is awarded to any person who, while serving in any capacity in or with the military of the United States after 6 December 1941, distinguished himself or herself by heroic or meritorious achievement or service"

How exactly did she do this? Should every G.I. who has a car accident be given the Bronze Star? Absurd.
