LOS ANGELES -- On movie screens around the world, Arnold Schwar-zenegger's characters have been beaten, shot, blown up, squashed -- even impregnated.

Analysts say none of that has prepared the 55-year-old movie star for the pummeling he will take in the media if he runs for governor on the Oct. 7 recall ballot.

The Libs have found a good way to divide the GOP vote by exploiting Conservative discontent. This can work well for them.

I'm inclined to agree with you. As the article said, it may be his best shot right now, with a short campaign. If he could win, he could establish himself, and maybe future attempts to dis-credit him would fail. I think it's now or never.

Yes old arnold, who was raised in old Europe, welfare state, couldn't serve out his military term, kept crashing tanks, married in to the kennedy clan, got an a ballot initiative onto the ballot with meathead, to force more money from taxpayers to do "good" things for government schools.

Yup a real conservative there.

Leave it to the Leftwing bias Sac-Bee rag to strike the first blow of many more to come. This is going to let us see if there are any traces of "Reagan" blood in the man. Arnold is un-proven as a politician but a good business man and most any business man would be better than "Broke Davis".

I agree with both of you. And I actually now believe that the Arnold is going to run. Here is why:

1. He is showing declining box office appeal. T3 hasn't had the boxoffice that T2 had, and to be quite honest with you all, his projects since The Last Action Hero have not been worldbeaters at the B.O..

2. At 55, he is past the age where he can be a leading man and also be a convincing romantic lead. He's becoming a "distinguished" actor. Schwarzennegger doesn't have the dramatic range to make the transition to older leading man, as Matthau, Lemmon, and Jack Nicholson did. Why not make the transition to politics, as Reagan did, once the well has run dry with the studios?

3. The Arnold has built up expectations for a run. This election is tactically perfect for him. It's true: he can win this thing with twenty to thirty percent of the vote. I will tell you right now; if all we have to offer is McClintock or Issa, we are freaking toast. Davis will paint them as "rightwingcrazies" and the idiot California voter will turn down the recall outright. For instance, Darrel Issa couldn't get elected towel boy in a whorehouse outside of his safe Republican district. What makes him think he can beat the spread in Orange County or reduce Davis' margin in the Valley precincts? On the other hand, Arnold knows that by playing hard to get, he increases media attention towards him and his brand name. The hits on his website have to be increasing exponentially.

4. For him not to run would consign him to the margins of California politics. California Republicans would feel jilted and betrayed. Better to run and lose than to have stood the Party up at the altar, especially when the odds are he can win.

If Arnold does run, and succeeds in unifying much of the Party behind him? Well, that makes things difficult for Davis, as in .....

Be Seeing You,

Chris

In a recall campaign, Republican foes would likely target Schwarzenegger's criticism of the GOP as well as his support for legalized abortion, "sensible" gun control and adoption by gay parents.

Does anyone have references on his stand on gun control?

In 1976 we were sitting on Venice Beach near the outdoor gym, and there he was with two buxom babes, sipping on a bottle of beer. He was pretty well known even then because he was Mr. Universe, making outlandish predictions about becoming a movie star and a politician (Rolling Stone had covered him a few times).

So here we are, and there he is, almost gov.

Strange world.

I'm surprised this article didn't mention that Riordan supports him. I heard him on the radio the other day saying he "hopes Arnold will run", etc. This is strong support from a very well established Republican. He's very smart, and I was surprised to learn he has an MBA, none of this is mentioned here. This is really a silly article, the phrase "reporterette" comes to mind. I mean, to say Reagan made westerns, but the violence wasn't so graphic then? How silly, extremely silly, is that?

Opponents and the media already have revisited his past admissions of drug use as well as allegations of his infidelity and boorish behavior toward women.

Qualities of Bill Clinton that were admired and celebrated by the same media.

The GOP needs to set up an ad hoc primary and get the Republican candidates to agree to it. If there's more than one major Republican candidate on the ballot, we could lose on that alone.

The conservatives ARE the Republican vote. When they get to know Ahhhhhhnold, they won't be split at all. They will just vote for a real Republican consensus candidate and terminate Ahhhhhhnold.

Ahhhhhhnold will fit right in with those Wilson sycophants since Ahhhhhhnold's father was a nazi. Ahhhhhhhnold will also get backing from NARAL and Planned Barrenhood with that kind of credential.

As you can sewe, it will be the Demonrat vote that is split by Ahhhhhnold if he finally has guts enough to run. Kennedy Demonrats will love him as a member by marriage of the corrupt Hyannisport Demonclan. Lavenders will love him for his support for lavender nuptials and adoption. Modern domestic disarmament nazis will love him for his desire to grab guns.

Let's hope that the Demonrats have a few other strong candidates other than Ahhhhhhnold so that their vote will split rather than going entirely to him.

Arnold Schwarzenegger

An exclusive interview with the manliest man about his plan to help California's youth.

By Joe de Wolk, Youth Radio

...

YR: Some critics argue that in your movies, there's a lot of violence and killing...you smoke cigars. So how can you be a role model for kids with this kind of example?

AS: That's a good question. But that question, you cannot ask me. Because I don't pick myself as the role model. You can't pick yourself. You can't say, this is what I want to do: I want to smoke stogies and do things to be a role model. The role model is picked by youth. You kids are the ones that admire me. You kids are the ones that see my movies. You kids are the ones that say, "This is really cool, Arnold with his muscles. I like his bodybuilding. I'm going to watch pumping iron.''

It's the kids that do it. They think it's cool when you have a stogie in the mouth. So when I go on the talk shows, I always tell the kids: don't smoke. Because what I do, I do to make it part of my character. It's an image thing. And the movies, with the gun in my hand? I don't run around every day with a gun in my hand. So I want kids to understand the difference: one is make-believe, like we do in movies. But in reality, I'm for gun control. I'm a peace-loving guy. I hate violence amongst the young kids.

I always tell them, get away from the violence. Solve problems with dialogue. That's the ultimate power — your vocabulary. How you communicate. Study vocabulary. The more words you have, the better you can communicate, and the quicker you can put someone away. Because if you hit someone in the face, that maybe hurts then and there. But to put someone away with dialogue — it's painful for a long time. People think about it at night, when they go home, and they say, "Oh, my god, what this guy said...."

Pigsty Politics Dirties Davis More Than Actor

By Robert Scheer

Published March 13, 2001 in the Los Angeles Times

Arnold Schwarzenegger for governor!

Well, why not? I hadn't thought of putting in a plug for the actor's political career until Gov. Gray Davis' top political operative, Garry South, conducted one of the meanest political smear jobs in recent memory.

South took the lowest of the low roads when he personally made sure that an article in Premiere magazine got into the hands of a host of reporters as well as potential Republican backers of a possible Schwarzenegger gubernatorial campaign. Not content with attacking Schwarzenegger as a womanizer, as the magazine did, South baited Republicans for even considering supporting a man whose political views might be described as more moderate than theirs.

As South told me, Schwarzenegger "defined himself as a social liberal, pro-choice and pro-gun control, plus he's married to a Kennedy." What a crime. But South sputtered on, adding that Schwarzenegger also is pro-gay rights, pro-immigrant and supported Clinton during the impeachment farce.

After flexing political muscle, will Schwarzenegger be back?

Success with child-care proposition spurs talk of run for governor

11/29/2002

....

There are obstacles between Mr. Schwarzenegger and the Republican nomination. GOP primaries in California tend to favor conservative candidates, and Mr. Schwarzenegger describes himself as "very liberal" on social issues.

He favors legalized abortion, some gun control measures and gay adoption. His wife, Kennedy cousin Maria Shriver, is a Democrat.

Six Degrees of Hypocrisy

Ignorance runs deep in Hollywood, where guns are only accetable on the big screen. . .when there is profit to be made.

By David Codrea

....

"Gun controls should be stiffer."

--Arnold Schwarzenegger

There is a sense of let-down with some of the stars. Schwarzenegger, who claims Republican leanings (despite supporting in-law gun-grabber Ted Kennedy's campaigns) is described by the press as "moderate on guns," meaning your rights have been terminated.

http://www.gunsandammomag.com/second_amendment/six_degrees_hypocrisy/

************************************

From the "Sixth Day" press kit...

Arnold: "My biggest complaint with the politicians is that the first thing they do is point the finger at Hollywood, which is moronic because that means that you're saying: I have the answer. Nobody has the answer. Therefore what you have to do is take the ten things that could be wrong in our society that you can never pinpoint. You have to say: Okay, let's just say it's the movies, rock music lyrics, the parents' failure to deal with the kids, the politicians' failure to create after school programs to keep them busy and create the right environment. Let's look at any of these different things, any one of which can apply to the influx of violence in our society and respond to all of them. Therefore, if we in the movie business should pull back, so should the rock and roll music. Gun controls should be stiffer, parents should start working harder with their kids, have more control over them and spend more time with them rather than going out to work or being on a golf course five hours a day instead of spending three hours helping their kids with their homework."

Back in the 70's I lived in the Mar Vista area of LA. I used to ride my bike to Venice to ride the bike path along the beach, eye the babes and look at the kooks who lived in Venice. I used to see Arnold and the other big body builder (I cannot remmber his name). They would be sitting by the work out area always with a couple of good looking babes in bikinis. This is long before he was famous as a movie actor but he was a noted body builder by this time and had a recognizable face to say nothing of the body.

First, because S. has run his own businesses (a multi-million dollar empire) he is certainly no dummy when it comes to business or finance. Therefore, I don't think he would run unless he indeed had some plan on fixing the state's financial problems. No plan, no run.

Second, the author is right: this type or race, just like Ventura's, is tailor-made for not having to answer some of the inane questions the press bombards you with.

On the other hand, I have always thought that S. doesn't act on impulse, and while he MAY have been considering running down the road, this may be too sudden for him. You don't engage in the physical training that he did, day in and day out, without LONG-term goals, and I'm not sure this fits.

The conservatives ARE the Republican vote.

I don't know about that. It seems that Conservatives are outnumbered by the combined GOP moderates and liberals, and Independents who vote for the GOP. If necessary in some elections, we have to use the RINOs and the Arnolds as stepping stones to electing Comservatives because governors can appoint Congressional replacements and can affect elections, etc. Control of governorships can change control of the US Senate, literally in a heartbeat.
