Bible-thumping diatribes against Catholics were routine in Boston. Riots and demonstrations against Catholics and immigrants were commonplace. Propaganda by Congregationalists stirred up the people. >>>

Sounds like some FR threads. Some things never change.

"U.S. Supreme Court Judges needed, No Catholic Pro-Life Judges Need Apply.”

In my Catholic experience, I'd wouldn't be surprised at all if many of our liberal clergy and leadership support this type of discrimination.

Not Democratic or Republican, but Catholic
http://www.catholic.org/featured/headline.php?ID=293

Ray Flynn, former Democrat mayor of Boston, was Clinton's only Pro-life appointee in his administration. Flynn Voted for Bush in 2000. He is also the honorary president of http://www.catholicvote.org

Please contact your U.S. Senators (and state legislators too) and ask them if they are opposed to confirming judges who believe in Catholic ( or Evangelical Christian, Mormon, Muslim or Orthodox Jewish ) doctrine regarding the sanctity of life and parental rights. Remind them that the Constitution allows no religious test and that you and members of your faith community do vote!

In my Catholic experience, I do find this a little surprising in today's society. I guess I was a sheltered as a military bratt, growing up on many different military bases here and Europe. As an adult civilian today.....nothing democrats do today really surprise me!

My sneators, "Orthodox Joe" Lieberman and "Kill'em on the way out pretend Catholic" Chris Dodd know my views on this by rote.

You got that right. Hugh Hewitt was wondering out loud why no American Catholic bishops have stood up against this. I kept shouting to the radio "because they're Democrats". If the Republicans were planning to cut some socialist government handout, you'd hear plenty from them.

I think gutlessness is more commonly the malady of mainline Protestant clergy (NCC churches, especially), who would do well to heed these words from Martin Luther:

"If I profess with the loudest voice and clearest exposition every portion of the word of God except precisely that little point which the world and the Devil are at that point attacking, I am not confessing Christ, however boldly I may be professing Christ. Where the battle rages, there the loyalty of the soldier is tested. To be steady in all the battlefields besides is mere flight and disgrace, if the soldier flinches at that one point."

Wasn't JFK a Catholic? Why isn't his brother on board? I don't remember the Nation stirred up when he was president.

Wasn't JFK a Catholic? >>>>>>>>>

That was then and this is now.

Yes, he was and a poor one at that as we now hear about his romps with a 19 yr. old. and I still think he murdered Marilyn Monroe, but anyway... Back then, abortion was illegal so it wasn't as big as an issue as it is now. Also, he was more conservative with taxes than many democrats are today. As a matter of fact, he along with Harding and Reagan were the only presidents of the 20th century who cut taxes.

His brother, fat Edward, is a left wing liberal who is pro abortion, against school choice, pro homosexual marriages and adoptions, etc....

What ray Flynn was talking about was that Bush recently appointed about a dozen pro-life nominees to the federal judiciary who are catholic and pro life; many of the Senators of all faiths, including Catholics, are filibustering. It's very frustrating from a Catholic/pro-life standpoint.

Well, maybe I didn't read the whole thing . But, JFK was a Catholic. Why isn't that brought up? We had a Catholic president and the country didn't go to h*ll. Why don't we use JFK and his policies against his brother? Sex and Washington in the sixties were different than they are now. In the sixties, it was discrete. Ask not what your country can do for you doesn't sound like what can you give me.
