I must admit I'm generally dismayed with American software, many developers here suffer from bloatware syndrome and put eye-candy over usability.

Email is particularly frustrating, I now use TheBat, which is a neat little program from an independent eastern european developer. No extra eye-candy, pure work-horse email program, not prone to virus. American products simply can't compete.

Yep. That's why Linus Torvalds moved over to the US. So it's no longer a Euro-origin, and hasn't been since kernel 1.2 or so. . .a decade ago.

You joke (I think), but at least one FReeper has bashed Linux becuase usage of it takes money away from the US-based Microsoft (and deprives the US Government of tax money from sales thereof).
