Spy Kids was a complete waste of money. My 5 year old loved it but even my 9 year old wasn't impressed. Clooney had about 5 minutes in the whole movie but because he played the President he turned my stomache. The message of the movie was "It Takes A Village". I couldn't wait for it to end and get out of the theater. All of you with kids, go see Pirates again instead of this movie.
The Spy Kids franchise has been shot in Austin, Texas and I sure that there are a lot of liberals in the production team. Doesn't mean that Robert Rodriguez is a liberal or that he would taint his film with his politics but I'd suspect that the crew who made these films were more liberal than Hollywood union film crews.
I was up in Austin this weekend. It seems that every local publication gave lots and lots of ink (several pages of coverage and often the cover). Even with that ra-ra cheerleading, a critic gave it only 2 out of 4 or 5 stars.
I haven't seen any of them. I haven't been amazed by Robert Rodriguezes films. I may see the Spy Kids films sometime; I hear that the studio issued the longer director's edit of the first film when they realized that it was better but I don't think that is the version that is on home video.
I've been buying the 60s spy films on DVD instead (which are far better than any made in other decades, especially if they aren't to be taken seriously).
