1. Whether we like it or not, heredity DOES have a lot to do with our propensity to be overweight. But just because we have the TENDENCY to gain weight easily doesn't give us a pass to pack on the pounds.
2. Usually the really thin people we all know do NOT diet; they really aren't all that interested in food and eat only when they're really hungry. I have two friends who actually forget to eat until somebody asks when they ate last. They're too busy doing...whatever they do all day.
3. We've made food the center of our lives; everything is scheduled around food. Life isn't about food.

I have two friends who actually forget to eat until somebody asks when they ate last. They're too busy doing...whatever they do all day. I had a problem with that and that is what slowed down my metabolism so much that I could not lose the weight. I actually never got hungry and was eating 1 meal a day at the most and even then it was a normal portion. Some blame weight gain on sugar, but I have not eaten refined sugar for over 5 years now because I am hypoglycemic, even fruit will give me the same bad reaction as sugar. I recently went on a diet of 4-5 smaller meals per day, started walking 1.5 miles a day on my treadmill and lost 13 lbs. I still have about 10 lbs. to lose. However, it seems I have leveled off for awhile, which is normal, but frustrating.

as a skinny fellow, I agree.
Food is fuel, that is all.
I eat what I want to eat, when I want to eat, as much as I want to eat. Nothing else, at no other time, and no more and no less.
I do have a rapid metabolism (genetically inherited), and this forces me to eat a lot. Since I must eat a lot, and am not made of money, I am limited to eating in the overwhelming majority meals cooked by me from raw ingredients. I have exceedingly simple tastes, as well.
