I don't know about the tape, but I'd be disinclined to believe in the objectivity of anything Susan Estrich threw her weight behind. She's a hard-core socialist, and has to be simply furious that one of her camp's most important enemies, whom they thought permanently reduced to a vicious caricature, is being rehabilitated. Remember, these are folks who maintain to this day that Alger Hiss and Harry Dexter White were innocent of all complicity with the Soviet Union.

In addition to all that, I can't stand to even read an interview with her, as it brings to mind that voice! Arrrgh! It's worse than fingernails on a chalkboard. Whenever her visage appears on FNC, I change the channel.

. . . which raises the question of the remaining Venona intercepts which haven't yet been decrypted, and which presumably would bring closure on some interesting things.

People back in the fifties and sixties would have killed for what today would be a low-end server; the number-crunch available to the Army back then would have been trivial compared to that which we could easily apply to the task now. Wonder what it would take to get NSA to shake a leg on that, and why it hasn't been done.
