Washington -- His voice trembling nearly to tears, Bakersfield Republican Bill Thomas -- one of the most acerbic and imperious members of Congress -- made an extraordinary apology on the House floor Wednesday for what he called his "just plain stupid" decision to ask Capitol Hill police to eject Democrats from a meeting room Friday.

He was a political science professor. Is the ways and means a good fit for him, I guess would be my first question? Interesting, the other items you mention.

Is this tearful Thomas in Hillary's files? What inner guilt and weirdness turns such a man into a blubbering blob of protoplasm?

Reading my mind friend. The apology sounded groveling and fear ridden. Sounded more like a man who ran over his favorite dog and was trying to pull himself together. His voice shook. His lips quivered. He looked and sounded like a man staring into the abyss. An over done, overwrought please forgive me.

He can't rest though. Nanc says it ain't over yet and when Nanc says it ain't over, it ain't over.

Apologies are done by strong people.....not weak people.

Baloney. Apologies are made by strong and weak people. Strong people are gracious, and weak people snivelling, in their respective apologies.

I believe the lesson of this little tale is to be coarse and don't apologize if you're a politician.

Were I a GOP member who had to endure Fortney, I would ... well, I wouldn't exactly instigate a fight, but I'd give HIM every opportunity to do so whenever there were witnesses; and, if he did in such a way that counterattack clearly was just, I would deck him, plain and simple. *snort*

You're kinder than me; I would have said, "Here, or outside? Your choice. Could someone hold my suit coat and tie for 45 seconds?"

Have the Republicans forgot they are in the majority? The Democrats have, and they need to be reminded of it.

***I do not understand why Thomas did this. Give the Dems an inch and they will take a mile. The Dems smell blood. This whole thing would have blown over in a few days.***

ABSOLUTELY! We just showed weakness where we need strength. They will ATTACK us in our weakness.

I like the apology. Apologies are done by strong people.....

"never apologize. It's a sign of weakness."....Capt. Nathan Brittles

More to the point, an apology is one thing, a grown man crying is something else. I don't like to see men cry, the death of a loved one or something comparable excepted.
