Uday Hussein May Have Committed Suicide

A U.S. military source showed two photographs of Uday and two of Qusay to an Iraqi Reuters reporter who was familiar with the appearance of both men.
Uday appeared clearly recognizable despite a wound that destroyed part of his nose and upper lip. Qusay's face did not show any sign of wounds.
Saddam's sons died on Tuesday when 200 U.S. troops attacked their hideout in the northern city Mosul with helicopters, grenades, heavy machineguns and anti-tank missiles.
U.S. military officers said Uday appeared to have been killed by a bullet in the head, but it was not yet known whether he had been shot by U.S. soldiers or had committed suicide.
In Washington, a defense official said the U.S. military would release graphic photographs of the dead sons on Thursday to prove they were killed by American troops.
"They will be released shortly in Baghdad on CD-ROM discs," the official, who asked not to be identified, told Reuters. The official said they would be distributed to news agencies.
The photographs shown to Reuters were initial pictures taken in Mosul after the brothers' bodies were recovered by U.S. soldiers but before they were taken to Baghdad.
Many Iraqis say they will not believe Uday and Qusay are really dead unless they see proof.
Spokesmen for the U.S.-led administration in Baghdad said some of the 25 members of the Governing Council, a U.S.- appointed body intended to bring a measure of self-rule, were being shown the bodies on Thursday afternoon.
They said the U.S. military hoped the Council members would help them persuade their compatriots that Saddam's family could never return to power. The Council members were also being consulted on what should be done to dispose of the bodies.
Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld said on Wednesday the Pentagon (news - web sites) intended to make public the pictures of Uday and Qusay in order to prove to wary Iraqis the men were indeed dead.

Just what I would expect. He goes around and beats other people and he's really just a coward. Just like Hitler.
I watched an interesting speculation as to how Hitler's suice occurred. It was a film that showed him holding the gun to his head but too afraid to pull the trigger. So he had his girlfriend do it. That's just specualation.

He probably ate his revolver...the gash on his face looks as if it could have come through his soft palate. Plus, weren't his teeth somewhat damaged?

"They" are now going to say we drove him to it when all he needed was a shoulder to cry on.

"Many Iraqis say they will not believe Uday and Qusay are really dead unless they see proof." How can this be? The NYTimes is reporting that Iraqi sensibilities are being offended by the gruesome photos. Certainly the NYTimes cannot possibly be mistaken, right?

This is an outrage! We had NO REASON to do what we did to these guys! None!
I find it incredible that we could not have made these two guys surrender without killing them! Certainly we have enough supplies and manpower to have collected 20 to 30 bars of soap! Which then could have been thrown into the house these guys were in. They would have surrendered immediately.
This needs to be investigated!

According to one of my unimpeccable sources, at some point during the firefight Uday came to a ground level door, opened it, took some of our people under fire and then closed the door. During this same period our people, using a single RPG, had taken out a triple layer, bullet resistant window on the second floor fortified area. Uday then appeared at this window and again commenced firing on our people with a pair of AK's. At which point he was taken down with a single 308 round to the mouth, thus escaping the noose more befitting his long train of crimes against his own people.

So he had his girlfriend do it. That's just specualation. The Roman Emperor Nero was supposed to have been unable to commit suicide as well, his former slave was supposed to have obliged him.

oh BS to that. Those people get a steady diet of grist and gore in their news.

Yeah those two p***ies died while hiding in the bathroom. What good to run to the bathroom? Did they foolishly believe the Americans would not think to look for them in there, or was their escape plan to flush themselves down the toilet?

These guys sound more and more like gangland criminals. This is straight out of scarface. I think they are going to end up being martyrs for standing up the military instead of being taken alive. I wish they would have taken them but something tells me the USA wanted it this way. Less circus trial crap to deal with.

it was not yet known whether he had been shot by U.S. soldiers or had committed suicide. The bullet didn't care, neither do I.

"oh BS to that. Those people get a steady diet of grist and gore in their news." I should have included the appropriate HTML tag to make my intent a little more obvious:

If Uday committed suicide, then the bathroom would sort of make sense wouldn't it? People usually go to a private place to kill themselves. But maybe it was just a more fortified interior room, like they tell you in a tornado to go to the bathroom because of the piping.
The thing is, they left the 14 yr old out in the bedroom? So what is the story behind that?
Did they lock the kid out of the bathroom because there wasn't enough room? Did the kid leave after they got killed. I guess there is enough speculation to go around here.
To: I still care
Yeah they ran to the bathroom because they were scared. Scared people often lock themselves in the bathroom. But since they weren't planning to surrender and you cant shoot back from a closed room with no windows what was their goal? I believe they had no goal, they were in a panic, so they ran to the toidy like a bunch of little girl's blouses.

The new Iraqi government should stuff the pair, lay them out in glass coffins and have any Iraqi, that wants to, file by and have a look.
